For me using 800, 1500, 2000, 3000 wet sandpaper, and followed by headlight restoration compound, then lastly followed by swirl remover polish. Took out deep gouges while removing virtually all swirls. Not 100% perfect but I'd give it a solid 95 to 98%

You could use some painter's tape around the bezel to make sure none of the sandpaper hits it. Also, you can use toothpaste at the very end for the final buffing.

Use a women's nail polish kit with the four sided sponge with different grit abrasive surfaces, that brings them up great.

I do a 3 step (800, 1500 & 3000 grits) on acrylic crystals but I do wet sand. I use cerium oxide mix (a lot like tooth paste but not as thick) on the final polish along with a 3000 grit. I also use a dremel at low rpm (final polish) with a light touch (too aggressive and you can burn the acrylic) and get "like new" results. Never though of using brasso..

Poly watch or cerium oxide will give you a vastly better outcome. I use my Dremel and buffing pads on my pocket watch crystals and it works awesome. Cheers

If you want to keep an old band rather than replacing it, you can clean all the human goo out of the links by putting the band (after detaching from the watch face, of course) into a jewelers sonicator. The sound waves get in between way better than Q-tips, toothpicks or a toothbrush. I just use a tiny bit of Dawn dish detergent in the first go around, then several more plain water rinses. Just keep going until the water stays clean. This works really well on dirty rings too...just be careful if you have any loose stones.

That is one beautiful watch! Great video, learned a lot from comments too. I'm surprised you did not remove the watch crystal. There is a crystal lift tool kit to do this for $16 on Amazon from FindingKing (with the best reviews and cheapest price). I plan to get this. Works well for plastic/ acrylic crystals. I'm not impressed with the Brasso buffing on crystal. Its not glossy enough. I would use a small Dremel Rotary tool with some 'Yorkshire Grit' or similar from the Woodworking channels on KZfaq. Woodworkers often use acrylic or epoxy in wood pieces for lathe work, then polish it to a high shine. This same fine grit would work on watch crystals, and car headlamps with a bench grinder or Rotary tool and buffing wheel. Maybe as someone suggested, use Polywatch tube $8 does 10 watch crystals. But the Yorkshire grits (UK) or similar in US, costs much less per watch. I would also buff up the strap a bit using a wheel buffing maybe? Is there any sort of gold paint you could use on the windup dial head?

These are fine suggestions but the average person likely doesn't want to purchase a crystal tool for one crystal nor do they own a dremel or other buffing tool. So perhaps the OP is merely trying to present something an average home user can execute without much ado or expense.

1. Replacement crystal are not always readily available. 2. In order to replace the crystal it needs to be removed (in one piece) and measured. 3. A new crystal will need to be installed. 4. Throwing away old things that are still functional and can be repaired is not everyone's idea of ecology.
