How to Practice Walking The Cup For Pipe Welding

This method works perfectly .It was designed so that if you press down too hard the tungsten will slide up into the cup hindering the walk,,so there is a delicate attention to detail placed on your Tungsten tip to keep marking the line but not to hard... this is training the welder to always be adjusting the arc length to keep a tight arc while keeping a consistent walk. Conditioning the eye hand coordination is all it is.

I used to practice on glass bottles. if u can walk on something slick. ...then walking on pipe will be a breeze. but practice practice practice is the key

Practice makes perfect, practice with both hands, don't hold the nozzle bad habit, it's hot

This works with a pen insert and a 1/8" collet. I've spent several hours practicing this and still having difficulty, so frustrating! The large cup does help. Eventually it will click I'm sure

@@jimmybrewster3007 I pulled the insert from a cheap plastic “Bic” pen, the ink tube is 1/8” so it slid right into the torch

I just told my homeboy this same thing today cause I was referring to the foot medal, holding the filler rod and the wrist motions 😂 I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt like this

How do you mount a pen inside of the torch body? ...Im thinking or guessing remove the ink tube portion from a bic pen and it will mount inside the proper sized collet.... 1/8th inch??

Just get yourself a pipe and practice by doing it instead of drawing, you will get use to lay the tungsten on a surface and that’s not what you want. If you make mistakes you can learn from it because it’s harder to do it over again. You have to start from the beginning. PRACTICE MAKES EFFORT GUYS, you will get there! 🫡

No, but it simulates where your ark should be. Honestly Tig welding feels a lot like painting to me.

Why does welding just come easy to me? I see that loads of people struggle with welding mostly TIG Welding but I swear you just need to take your time and have a steady hand😂

Wasting their time with that. They’re stabilizing themselves and putting pressure on the top of the pen. They will be dipping a lot of tungsten in their future.
