It is worth mentioning the TSB out there so people under 80k miles can get their heat exchangers fixed for free by the dealer the Toyota approved way. This way is great if not covered under warrantee

Yeah I would also like explanation... Like what you're doing looks simple enough but the question is is like why am I supposed to do that
@gasketmasters Жыл бұрын
The exhaust heat Recovery system leaks coolant into the catalytic converter, without knowing, loss of coolant will overheat the engine and caused the head gasket to fail, and in many cases caused the engine to blow entirely

Answering my question if you have this type of vehicle go ahead and do this next oil change.... My head gasket blew 5,000 miles back... Didn't know this was the reason until I did my first oil change the other day... Ran to the store and banged out out for less than $10 ... Way cheaper and easier than a head gasket replacement or new engine lol

@@gasketmasters Is this also common in Gen 3 Prius V? Also, another comment suggests doing the bypass at the firewall, so you know how to or suggest doing th at, and if so would you post a description or video of how to (or direct me as to where/how to do the bypass at the firewall)? I have a '12 Prius V I'm getting diagnosed today that I fear, based on symptoms and what I've read online, is a blown head gasket. I will most likely be getting it repaired but want to make sure the repair lasts as long as possible, as I'm not sure average length of head gasket repair, but research tells me between 100-150k, and I want to get every mile I can before it goes out again. If you have any insight into that information as well, I'd greatly appreciate it. Lastly, in your experience is there a better and/or worse head gasket kits (Toyota, FelPro, AC Delco, Dana, ECT) when doing the repair or are they all about the same?

What!? Is this legit? I thought coolant gets warmed up to help the engine to get to operating temperature and then it bypasses the cat automatically
@sashaghovanlou8175Ай бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong but the purpose is to use the heat from the coolant to get the cat up to temp sooner.
@col.cottonhill665527 күн бұрын
@@sashaghovanlou8175 the coolant takes longer to heat up than the cat. The exhaust gasses hit the metal of the cat and become hot much sooner. Liquid takes longer to heat. Think your stove. The empty pot heats up very fast in contact with heat. The one full of water takes much longer.

@riceburner4747 So, ok. Exhaust Heat Exchanger will rust and obviously cause coolant to leak, ending in engine overheating and then to head gasket failure. So, with all that said, replacing the expensive head gasket job alone wont fix the original problem unless the Exhaust Heat Exchanger part is also replaced Or overpassed as this video explain it, right???🤔🤔🤔 any assurance?

@jafinch78 Жыл бұрын
@@riceburner4747 You can, just need to find or fabricate a piece that is stainless. I was thinking doing something like that for the PCV Valve relocated to be vertical up beside the EGR Valve-Radiator area since I'm sort of paranoid to use rubber hose in the circuit that's not a Toyota or approved vendor material for contacting the oil. My thought is to use similar metals for the block to PCV Valve tube so to prevent oxidation from two dissimilar metals in contact and therefore reduce potential impurities. Then again, teflon tape or a thing coating of something like thread lock should prevent that.
