Here I explain how to print a lithophane on your SLA printer from finding the file you want to print, to the actual print in 20mins or less!

This is a great tutorial. It's almost exactly how I did it on Prusa SL1. I'm the guy from Facebook that did the SpaceX resin lithophane. It's even more popular on Reddit. Anyway when any1 ask how I did I refer them here. Keep up the excellent work.

Hey Nuro is it possible to print the lithophane vertically on the buildplate, will this give a good result?

@@Sv3n Resin printer will print any orientation. However the horizontal is quickest while also requiring no supports or base for lithophane. Example lithophane: horizontal orientation - 13 mins vertically orientation - 4hours 19 min for lithophane alone. But now even more time is needed to print a base because not enough contact with build plate during printing.

@@nuroo1 thanks for the helpful info. I am interested in a prusa SL1 for printing lithophanes. The reason I asked this is because the lithophanes I print on my MK2.5s are normally around 120 by 100mm. Therefore it is to big to print flat on the bed.

Pretty cool! I've made lithophanes on my fdm printer and they looked good, but not like this! I made a roatating photo cube out of wood with glass panes in it for photos to slip behind the panes and printed family photos on my fdm printer and put them behind frosted glass. Installed a night light bulb inside so it just looks like frosted glass panes till you flip on the bulb, then the photos showed up. I gave it to my grandmother for christmas

They make perfect gifts. The only drawback was the time it took to print. Now with SLA you can knock these out in minutes!

Your tutorials are interesting and bring a lot of suggestions. Only this is at least incomplete. Quickly explained, no problems so far. Unfortunately, important details are missing. Is the lithophane directly on the plate? A detailed picture would be interesting. How are the supports? If it lies directly on the flap, how did you print the first layers? Many questions that remain unanswered in the video.

any tips on slicing? for some reason when i print lithophanes flat they come out way thicker than they should be. I am trying to print a 4mm thick picture ( max thickness) but it is coming out at 5 mm for some reason, no clue why! i did a 20x20x20 cube to verify my settings after and it came out almost perfect.

Great video, but it would have been nice to see a free seconds of orientation in the slicer. I assume you orientate it flat to the bed, with the flat side at the top ? Do you have issues with scraping if off etc ?

That’s correct! No issues with removal from the build plate.

Hi. I have a question. My new Elegoo Saturn is doing well and I use Chitubox. My problem if I print it flat at the bed, it is always much thicker. Like there are additional Layer at the bottom. Chitubox shows me 2.7mm but it is above 4mm at the Z axis after printing. Even the x and y axis it is a littlebit thicker. Like there is a Raft underneath but the Support is off. Maybe you know why my Saturn does it? Thanks

printing it flat reduces the quality so much compared to right up why would you even ?

Thanks for your comment! Printing flat on a resin printer is very different from printing flat on FDM. In this case the trade off between flat and vertical is not noticeable to me. Also it takes less time.
