Informative video but maybe you should do a video on moss poles because the support you showed isn't a moss pole and definitely is not the best support if you want aerial root growth. Try watching The Sydney Plant Guy on KZfaq. So informative on climbers. 🙂

Hi, I've done air layering with 100% success. I used plastic cups filled with spagnum moss. I cut the stem few days before I plant the cuttings. They are being held in place by velcro. I remove the spagnum moss from the roots but not completely. Just shake off the excess. That way I am not disturbing the roots. Than stick the new plants on some kind of pole and that's it.

Hello Mr Sheffield. I know I have hounded many times about pafcal chips as a growing medium, but give it a try. Once some roots are formed I pot it up in pafcal chips, use hydroponic nutrient solution to water it, and the f**ker just sprout inches of roots per week (I used a clear pot so I can see). Within a month the small pot is pot bound. I would love for you to try it out and do a video on it too. 🙏

I have a monstera plant with more than one growth, not necessarily multiple plants in a pot, it's just simply having a busy one stem with more growths, so it looks like I have more individual plants in one pot.

Want to keep the rooting water fresh? Put an aquarium air stone in there. Keeps it oxygenated, and prevents rot. In my experience, monstera is not bothered by algae on the roots. I have one that has a thick coat of blackbeard algae on its roots for a couple years now.

another way instead of changing water in cuttings is to use a water sprayer, set to solid stream not mist, to _inject_ fresh water and air bubbles into the water.. that way it stirs it up a little and fresh oxygen gets to the roots.. I only change it when it gets really dirty but by that time I take them out in the dirt anyway.. somehow I dont get algae in pure water, only when I use perlite though, funny enough 😄

Nice one again. Thanks. Do you reckon the adansonii will work in the same way? It would be the next one due. 3-4 weeks for root development is not that long. I just succeeded after several tries for the first time to have a Crassula (jade plan) leaf broken off to take roots in a shot glass half full of water with cling film over the glass and no changing of anything. It took three months! Tiny leaves and very fine roots are developing now from the little stem of the leaf. I do similar experiments with all of my plants now to see what is working.

The older plant has looked sickly for some time now . I’ve separated them and I’ll treat them with neem again. Both have new growth though so that’s a good sign I think . I have a big Monstera and hope you can help me with a question. Ok, it's four, actually, which were sold in one pot. I planted them into a bigger pot already, and they are thriving. Big, lush leaves, more and more fenestration, not a single brown tip. But they are most likely will outgrow the pot this summer, and I am planning ahead to repot them. I don't want to make cuttings, just separate the plants (maybe put two in one pot, so I have two pots in the end). I also want to make a moss pole for them. My question is: Can I put the long aerial roots that I have directed into the soil until now into the moss of a moss pole? Or will that cause the roots to rot because the part of them that's not in the soil is used to be dry in the air instead of being wrapped in moist moss?
@MoralistaDefinitivo

Putting aerial roots into the soil is better as it gives the plant more stability. There are smaller ones that will latch onto the support.

I believe you don't have to let it callus over if you've cut it with a very sharp knife (I assume razor blade or hobby knife level of sharpness). That being said, I also think a cutting will be more prone to rot the Wetter the environment. So callousing might be more important if you plan on propagating in water

I recently bought a MD from a person. It’s quite large and she mentioned it needed a bigger pot. When transplanting it, I expected some really large roots, but found there was not much of a root ball and it had new small white roots, no large ones. I figure this is just a transplant from her original. Now after a few days, one large leaf on the top is drooping and I worry it will happen to the other 5 large stems and leaves. The soil she had it in was quite moist. Is there anything I can now do to keep it from dying? Thank you. Thank you.

She named it Jeannie (after her mother) put corks in and on top of soil (too keep away gnats) and lighted incense in the soil! The plant was very well loved, it’s so big, like 5 x4, but only has about 5-6 huge leaves. I love it so much and hope it survives.
