How to PROPERLY de-click Helios 44-2 lens

In this DIY tutorial i describe step by step how to get rid of annoying pre-set aperture mechanism of famous helios 44-2 lens.
Smooth and clearly readable aperture is particularly necessary for filmmakers.

Спасибо. Довольно интересное и неожиданное решение. Молодец! Попробую и себе так сделать. Такое управление диафрагмой будет привычнее. К тому же там эти клики всегда тугие, неудобные. На Мир -1В аналогичное управление диафрагмой. Тоже подумать бы. До такой степени Мир-1 я никогда не разбирал, но стало тоже интересно.

Hello again. Thank you for another great video. I managed to do this modification without problems. I already saw people asking about doing the same with slr Jupiter-9. The older types 1 and 2 look very similar to helios 44 design. Would it be possible, or the version does not matter, and can't be done like in this video? Thanks again

yes, it can be done in similar way, with minor differencies in processus

Great video. I would like to keep the clicks but make it a little easier to turn. Would turning the brass ring help this?

Great video thanks. Is there a way to join the two rings together like you have done but to leave the click in place? This would effectively get rid of the preset function.

no unfortunately it is not possible becuase of design issues

I don't see why not. If you line up the open/close ring with the red dot on 2 of the aperture selector ring and somehow connect the 2 rings together it's done.

Great video! The only thing a didn't understand is why I should loose the ring by unscrewing the brass ring below it by one full turn, what's the advantage of doing this?

it is needed to get a smooth moving of de-cicked aperture control ring

Very nice and informative. I have a problem with my lens here. The lens is not modified for video, it came from the dealer as it is. The red line of the focus scale is not in the same line with the red dots. Maybe 45 degrees different. Which screw is not right? Thanks for your assistents. 🙏

Hi, great video, when I was putting back together the optical and focus block, I cannot match the aperture dot with the distance mark, it is slightly off, do you know why is this happening?

Amazing video!!! I bought in Georgia (country) a Helios 44-2 MMZ versión (Zebra - N7191072) and what i see is that the focus ring is very hard, it does not slide smoothly. Is there any possibility to make it smoother? Like that its a bit hard doing photo sessions xD. thanks in advance!

Hope you are ok with everything going on. I have a early silver Helios 44 with the Zenit M39 mount, is there a way to convert this lens to something more universal say M42? Adapters as far as I'm aware won't focus to infinity.

You can unscrew the lens block from the helicoid and sand down, or replace the thin aluminum spacer ring. It needs to be at least 0.27mm thinner to compensate for the different focal flange distance. Then you simply install a m39 to m42 step up ring. I use loctite to keep the step up ring attached to the lens so it doesn't get stuck in the adapter.

Здравствуйте! Слава Богу, что нашёл Ваш канал, где так подробно рассказывается про обслуживание Helios 44-2. Подскажите пожалуйста если у меня возникли трудности с откручиванием линзоблока, он вообще не откручивается (наверно резьба "прикипела"). Что посоветует в данной ситуации?

hi, im tempted to fix the free play on type 8 helios 44-2..im planning to use mine for videos, i watched your cine mod helios 44-2..but then i cant find any videos to fix the free play or did i miss something from your channel?

it is difficlut to fix free play by yourself, as spare parts tolerances were not respected during manufacturing process

Hello, i have a Helios 44-2 with a broken filter thread. Is there any way to remove (replace) the filter ring? There are any skrews under the aperture ring? Thank you.

What is the purpose of the tape? Can a rubber O ring provide the same function?

yes, it can, but it has to be thin enough to fit very snarrow place between 2 rings.
