Commenting on an old video, but this was very helpful, so, thank you! I have a Tarett three-piece swaybar on the rear of my MINI Cooper, and for the longest time I couldn't seem to get it dialed in correctly and it was very noisy. Now it's completely silent, and the car rotates like a compass. Sweet! 😄

Just as how you want little to no preload on springs, the same applies to your sway bar. You want your suspension components to act independently of each other. Zero reload is a good thing. Thats why helper springs are a thing when it comes to setting preload on a coilover spring.

Hi Sean enjoy watching your videos ,will you be fitting adjustable drop links on the rear or are they not as important.Keep up the good work
@SeanS54
@SeanS54 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Adjustable rear end links are not as important- some people run without a rear sway bar if your springs are stiff enough. It's more important for the fronts since the fronts are doing the turning. I think the rear adjustable end links don't hurt but since I'm running a stock rear bar I'm keeping the rear end link stock.
@SydeshowMO
@SydeshowMO 5 жыл бұрын
goldenspanner 1 all depends on what your setting the car up to do. I run a stock sport front sway w/ adjustable links and TMS adjustable rear sway at full stiff w/ stock end links. I need the rotation back there and running a front sway makes the rear rotate slower.

You can run only one adjustable end link on one side and the stock end link that is not adjustable on the other side. In reality, it doesn't make a difference IF there is no binding or hitting of components and the sway bar end, in most cases, are horizontal. You would only adjust one side and that's it. Its kinda genius and then you have another adjustable end link to use as a replacement or spare. The sway bar shouldn't be fighting the other side if everything is level and the car is sitting there flat. This should be done on level ground.

OK, while you are correct in that there is now 0 pre-load on your swaybar, you are wrong in that this is how to "properly" install adjustable end-links. You have completely neglected the ORIENTATION of the sway bar itself. You cannot use stock end links if you have changed your ride height at all (which is what happens during corner balance even if your coil-overs are set to at stock ride height). The sway bar will be less effective if the bar is pointed in a direction that is leveraged less by the end-link. Next time: 1) Put the car in the air 2) swap both end-links to adjustable ones but do not connect them at the top (or the bottom if that is easier to reach when the wheel is on) 3) Put the car on the ground, or, on ramps so that the suspension is loaded 4) Crawl under the car and position the sway bar so that the tab/mounting point of the bar is in the correct orientation (usually this is horizontal with aftermarket sway bars, but some stock sway bars have a lot of bends to make them less effective and they WILL NOT point parallel to the ground when oriented correctly). 5) Adjust both end-links so that they freely connect to the sway bar while it sits in its PROPER position.
@SeanS54
@SeanS54 6 жыл бұрын
You made good points but you forgot to add a driver in the seat to account for his/hear weight. ;-) Also, it really depends on where your coilover sway bar mounting point is... my method removes preload from the sway bar and many people only run one adjustable sway bar end link.
@brendenbanks9293
@brendenbanks9293 6 жыл бұрын
SeanS54 that doesn't make it correct lol the only time it actually causes any noticeable issues is if the sway bar is put into a position that now makes contact with a control arm or the chassis. Otherwise, no one's going to notice that their sway bar isn't being leveraged 100%. The car will just roll ila but more than it really should.
