How to properly set the steering on an RC using a Traxxas Slash LCG as an example arm then trim

Many new rc enthusiast have the habit of exhausting the trim function in a Tx. Not realising the angle of the servo horn is crucial to good performance. Here I explain the proper way to set the steering in an RC using a Traxxas Slash LCG as an example.

The first time I could not believe the difference it made on a track. Bashing, I never noticed much. Then I slapped a transponder and took it to a track, and it was night and day.

I just set my steering end points and now one way has a ton of dead zone in the steering and the other has no dead zone, how would I fix this? I have a 2wd slash

Is the servo horn perpendicular to the chassis in the neutral position? If the horn is not pointing straight up, reposition the servo horn.

Quite simple. If the vehicle is going away, the "target point" will move. Meaning one may accidently aim it a bit to one side or another. If one drives the vehicle towards one's self, the "target point" does not move creating a more straight line in the trajectory of the car. In other words, if it does away from you it can steering a bit off course; if it is coming towards you... it either does or does not.

@@telecomandorc with all due respect, thats bullshit. unless you start with it aimed DIRECTLY at you, which is just as hard as driving it directly away from you, your alignment is useless. i have been able to get perfect results driving it away from me. also if you dont have a straight line to drive it against you need to just put down the remote and sit on the couch. it could be a line in the floor (like wood floors, pattern in a carpet or any various tile type floor whether it be carpet tiles or linoleum) or even a wall you can drive it next to.

@@dirtrider88 Whatever works for you. If doing it indoors and you have the space, go for it. If you have to do it outside and you can follow a marked line or just eyeball it, go for it. The point is simple... we both know car's right is Tx input right... and left is left regardless of one's left or right. This is a basic skill anyone should know in RC. So, it shouldn't be hard driving away or towards one. The point of driving towards one is that one does not need a physical. A line requires two points... where the car is and another... if you find it easier to drive away and just follow a path, go for it. So, driving away one can hit a target point but still be off as one adjust. Driving towards one as one looks at the RC... it either goes straight towards one or it doesn't. But whatever works best for you. How do you do it precisely?
