I found some this year (for some reason I haven't seen them in Hamilton for many years) and will definitely try to over winter them. I know what you mean about the rain. I am not sure what type of clematis I have, dark purple flowers, but I have discovered that when I cut it back severely just before winter, the branches come back so much more vigourously and so do the flowers. Before I used to only prune a little bit and had all those dead branches and leaves as you have shown. It’s amazing how your Bo Bo hydrangeas and astilbe are blooming beautifully together. Doesn’t Diaz still be need more shade? Your hard work is paying off with your gorgeous plants ! 🌸❤️🇨🇦

Thank you Anita, I fed it “garden sulfur”…a natural soil acidifier. It doesn’t have a long term negative affect like magnesium sulfate (what people normally like to use). Sulfur works slowly into the soil so if you apply now and again in the fall and spring - the panicles will change colour next season. Good luck!

I'm so glad you got Felcos. Are they specifically designed for lefties? I noticed how the locking switch(?) is close to your thumb. I know it hurt your heart a bit to cut that clematis so severely, but, as you said, it had to be done. I have a 'Crystal Falls' clematis that I cut back quite a bit last year. I don't recall it blooming that year. This year, I got out early enough to tie it to my trellis (using that same Velcro tape) so I might not need to prune it so hard. I think mine needs more sun. I planted a couple new clematis last month in full sun. I wondered if the one near my house survived the roofers trampling on it and found some fresh growth when I mulched it last night. Fingers crossed. Japanese beetle attracter plant? My apple tree is being decimated by the nasty pests. I found several nestled in a rose bloom nearby. Oh no you don't! I got a bucket of soapy water, their spa treatment. 🤢

Me too Kate! I set my morning alarm to go out with a bowl dish soap water to tap on the branches of my plants. Hi Kathy, I’m sorry to hear about your clematis. Did you get a chance to inspect the clematis to see if you could find any insect on the blooms? My guess is probably some kind of a black beetle? Hi Hong, I actually don’t do anything special to them. I just cut them back in fall and they come back up in the spring. After they are done flowering I cut the dead flowers off and let them flower again. The other thing is that you may have to divide them every 3 years….otherwise they get to big and floppy. Ps. Your English is great and I understood you 💯. 🙏💚🪴

I think the key is in the soil. Plants have a hard time in our clay soil. It's nutritious, but the plant roots can't grow easily, plus wet seasons keep plants too wet in clay and dry seasons are hard to get water deep into the soil. Key is fix the soil with humus, compost.

How do you keep your interlocking pavers weed free?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 2 жыл бұрын
In the spring I just make sure to use the blower and blow all the debris (and seeds?) away from the pavers so if there is any weed seeds they will be blown away into the garden and don’t get caught and grow in between the pavers. Every once in a while I may get 1-2 weeds popping up but that can be easily hand pulled. Hope that helps.

Will it be enough time for zinnias to bloom since it's July already?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Keerthi, Most zinnias have a 30-45 days period for blooming. I’m not sure what the variety is but I planted the seeds hoping they would bloom 30-40 days from now. Which would be good as our gardens tend to be not as colourful near the end of August. Also the seeds were given so I thought it would be fun to give it a try. Even if they don’t bloom it will be nice to see some green in those planters. 🤞💚🪴

Thank you Nilda. 💚💚💚💚 The small square planter is a 12” and I think it took about 1 small bag of potting soil - 28L. The large oval planter may have needed about 60 L (or a little more?)….I usually do a mix of potting soil + compost so I’m not exact in my estimation. I love those self-watering planters as they are double-walled so I use them to winterize my perennials in them. Plants usually winterize well outdoors for me in those pots. That is why I have many of them. 💚🙏🪴
