I needed a saw to cut stone tiles for a backsplash. kzfaq.infoUgkxfiuHoZJo3bgdVPFRxQ-iqPpfbEHl2cYt I thought for sure I was going to need to buy a "better" blade than the one that came with this machine. I was surprised to see that blade worked great. Buying this saw was cheaper than renting and allowed me to take my time on the project. I wrapped the tiles (front and back) with blue painters tape and drew my cut lines with a sharpie on the tape. I performed all of my cuts free hand and had no trouble cutting the tile straight. There is a guide you can use to help with cuts if you prefer. This was my first tile job and this saw made it easy.

Thanks Isaac. I'm an amaeur tiler in asmuch as I only tile my own homes and occasionally help tile friends and family projects. I've learned from you. I did my first mud pan with PVC liner in my current home. I've used the diamond kits from Lowes for holes in porcelain. it's a wet kit and wouldn't work for in place vertical tile as it glues a cup/guide to the tile and holds water. It worked for my purposes. It isn't built as sturdy as the dry saw you use but I'm sure it's a lot cheaper. Were I doing more tiling I'd consider one of those. But I'm soon 70 and don't see that much tile work in my future.

Thanks for the video. You emphasized a lot about using a variable speed angle grinder, but you didn't mention the optimum speed to set for the cutting. I would also have liked for you to tell us where to get the diamond hole cutter that you used and of course the brand name. Thanks again.

Issac I respect you and love your videos but request that you wear a dust respirator whenever grinding tiles. I know you use a vacuum and wear eye protection but there is still fine micro porcelain/ceramic dust and gradually it will injure your lungs. I am a professional tile installer, bath kitchen remodeler and can spend hours into the late evening just watching your and many other tile masters and finished carpentry videos. Thank you.

I use a full one speed grinder for my core bits, but I don’t go over about 2” holes. Beyond that I just grind it out with a 4” blade. Tools availability in my local area is spotty, but I really want a superior and more versatile hole boring system.

Cheers m8, first of all I wanna commend ur channel, really good job. Now the question; I personally use Bosch bits and love them, but truth is that they are quite expensive (~80 bucks for 3,5 cm (1.37795 inches I guess :D)) How many holes do u usually cut before they wear off? And yeah, grinder speed is important until u hit that 3,5cm, everythin' smaller needs to go slower

I just finished cutting a square hole for a shower head pipe using a dremmel with cut off wheels. I went through 6 wheels doing it but it was precise and the hole lined up perfectly. Unfortunately while setting the tile, it snapped right along two of the square corners of the cut diagonally. Not doing that again! Diamond wheel for me!!! Thanks!!!

What is the difference between drilling the hole with a drill vs an angle grinder? I see a lot of guys who does counter too drill holes with the angle grinder, but not so much with tilers.
@BlahBlahManYeah
@BlahBlahManYeah 4 жыл бұрын
Angle grinder gives better control over sliding, and even at lowest RPM, it still twice faster than most of drills at high speed. With thickness of counter that speed is more notable.

Can you show drilling a hole in a tile on the wall? Or will that ever be necessary?
@jerrygrayson65
@jerrygrayson65 4 жыл бұрын
Drilling in vertical porcelain tile is necessary when installing grab bars in a pre-existing tiled shower. I now do not need a template due experience but do not rush this drilling and follow Isaac's advice, be patient and if you plan to install grab bars I suggest using Moen due they make special hardware sold separately which does not even require drilling into a stud. Many people do not know about these special Moen attachments which I know will always use. To use this hardware you drill a 1 1/4 inch hole. I have a variable speed grinder/polisher with water feed which I used for polishing tile edges but I will now consider using it for drilling porcelain. If you do not have a variable speed grinder you can drill using a variable speed normal drill without or with water using carbide coated key saw blades. To limit drill tip travel I start the hole using a carbide tip 1/8 or perhaps 3/16inch spade shape bit just to penetrate the porcelain glaze and change to the carbide tip larger bit, Be patient, I use water in a small bowl or sponge to kool the drill tip.

Cutting from the back of the tile with an angle grinder and a regular 4" diamond blade is faster and cheaper. Round cuts look nicer though. The hole will get covered regardless.

@@1surfercross Hole saws take too long to cut through porcelain. 4" Diamond blade is faster, i've tested it out. Besides, It doesn't matter how it looks because it'll get covered up, so why waste time? It's all about preference. I only use hole saws with granite countertops which is something i don't usually do. Granite is too heavy for me. I'm a tile setter, not a granite guy.
