Im baffled about the whole appearance of the meniscus from that mri image it’s absolutley incredible. It’s amazing how it’s a perfect triangle. I have a perfect triangle on one side and like a half triangle on the other side. At the ER I was diagnosed with a sprained knee when it didn’t heal the doctors said it’s most likely my meniscus. It’s been 8 months now I’m 28 and I’m expecting surgery soon still feeling a lot of pain from average movements. Thanks for showing me how to read my MRI results!!

I have a lateral tear in left knee. Had surgery 8 months ago and now it’s probably torn again. I’m waiting for the doctor results but I already know since it feels kinda the same as the first time.

How did it go? I just did an mri yesterday and I am going to get the results, i was in a motorcycle crash a month ago and im recovering from my foot, but my doctor said he needed to check my meniscus to see if something is wrong there, I feel pain in the right side of the knee and sometimes I cannot stand up very well because it feels weird

I got dx with a degenerative torn meniscus in Oct 2019. Started a ketogenic diet after Thanksgiving and today my knee is 80% healed with only an occasional “click” every few days now. I am not overweight but by reducing insulin by eliminating sugar & refined carbs, wheat, legumes and grains, I feel incredible to boot!

I have had pain in both my knees for more than a year now. It started right after my baby was born and I added so much weight ( although am not sure the weight did this) anyway, all I know Is that my back started hurting soo much from all the positions I put my body in, for the baby. And everytime I held my baby, it would make my back pain worse. It became apparent to me that what I needed was to rest and not stress my back, but with a small baby it wasn't an option for me since I had no help. I tried to do some weight lifting to strengthen my back. Now my back seems okay although when I lift things it hurts again. But my knees have not been the same ever since. I had my MRI taken last week and I have an appointment next week to read them. I am afraid they will tell me they are normal, because I cannot bend my knees at all. It hurts so much. When I stand itz okay although it hurts too. And now the pain has spread to my ankle joints. Especially when I sleep. What could that be?
@centenohome
@centenohome 7 жыл бұрын
Ingabrie Lise, We'd need to examine you to diagnose your issue, but what you describe is suggestive of an issue originating in your back. The lumbar spinal nerves control everything below them. While we think of backs, hips, knees, and ankles as separate entities, they're actually sections of the same unit. Please see: www.regenexx.com/low-back-and-knee-pain/ and www.regenexx.com/back-causing-your-knee-pain/ and www.regenexx.com/backs-can-cause-knee-pain/

Well i have knee surgery every year since 1996. I have pvns that keeps growing back. I have both medial and lateral meniscus tears every now and there. They would shave them and fix with my scopes for pvns. They helped greatly. Had my yearly scope in may told dr had a tear. He told me after I did not. Well this only time after all other ones didn't seem right i felt like still had the tear. He wouldn't help me except do useless cortisone shot a week apart. Pretty sure a new resident did my surgery and he didn't check the work therefore not wanting to help me even though he has been doing my surgeries since 2000. Months later ordered mri it did show two complex tears and two incomplete fractures. Had he did my surgery and fixed them in may. I would have been ok but since that didn't happen i needed my back fusion redone in August that i just had in February. Two weeks before second one knee hurt so bad fell down stairs broke l2 vertebrae. Having knees replacement in three weeks. 59 now so its time. Plus hamstring tear surgery after that 12 months of non surgical treatment does not work. All my tears knees rotator cuff and hamstring only help me if surgically fixed. So i do not agree with not fixing them. I had to much damage to other parts of body due to not fixing this last time

Hello sir, I twisted my knee 3 and half weeks ago from a sudden shift of the body while surfing. I did MRI and the diagnosis says i have a MCL tear but the Meniscus is undamaged. I went to a knee orthopedic surgeon, he looked at the MRI itself and said he thinks they made a mistake in the diagnose and I do have a medial Meniscus tear. He took the MRI disk to further consult with peers only to return with an answer that the Meniscus does looks intact. I went to another knee orthopedic specialist , he didn't look at the MRI, only at the diagnosis. He did a little bit checking of the knee and said it's only the MCL tear. Now here's the thing- I CAN'T straighten the knee. If I try to straight it with a chair like you showed I can only go like 170 degrees, not a full stretch . Now I'm doing physiotherapy for a week or so, but my physiotherapist said that if it was only MCL tear I should have been able to straighten the knee... it is possible that with only MCL tear I couldn't straighten the leg? could it be that all those doctors missed something? I would be very grateful if you could take a look at MRI, please let me know if it is ok Thank you very much
@centenohome
@centenohome 8 жыл бұрын
Ofir, Sorry, I can't take a look at your MRI as we don't have a doctor patient relationship. www.regenexx.com/knee-mcl-surgery-healing-without-surgeryl/ Not being able to straighten a leg with an MCL injury is common. The trick is to be examined by someone who can make a definitive diagnosis, treat without surgery!

Hi and thanks for this informative lesson. I went cycling last week did around 10 miles and have had pain on the inside of my right knee ever since...(I am 50, have always been active and that knee can be achy on the inside after mountain/hill walks of around 5 hours but after this particular cycle it seemed to go to a new level where I am now stiff and limping a week down the line ) Given that you have said that there is no evidence to support that a meniscus tear causes pain in middle age - what else could be the reason -MCL? any advice welcome..

I feel like I'm screwing it up even more with how i'm walking/this crappy brace/movement (trying on my own to ease stiffness - mixed results so far) It's really sad we have to come onto youtube for medical knowledge/care. PLEASE, QUICK QUESTION: I have a left knee MRI that I am reading right now (was taken yesterday), from what I am learning with your video I think I have a meniscus injury (doesn't look like a tare, but rather whitish fibers).? My actual question is though "what is that bright white spot on the femur?" as I see I have the same thing in my MRI views, exactly on the same spot as the one you are showing (see minute 3:40, please). I googled a bit, could a be a bone cyst or tumor? HUGE THANKS!

How serious is this tear? Is that the part with low/no blood supply? The fracture is healing well (according to my doc), but is surgery needed for the partial root tear of the meniscus? My doc has suggested suture anchor surgey...Can the tear completely heal with time and few exercises? Please advise.

B Anto, Tears in the outer 1/3 of the posterior horn have the best chance of healing with time and physical therapy. There is no convincing evidence that Meniscus surgery helps, in fact more evidence that it creates future problems. Great video. My mri report says “ grade 2 curvilinear signal seen in posterior horn of medial meniscus” . Consulted with a doc and they say it’s a tear but no one can tell me how bad or big it is, anyway to find out and what’s the prognosis for such tears? Appreciate any advice!

Great video! I wish it covered complex meniscus tear as well, but I get the idea. How common is it for meniscus tear to come with a cyst in the back of a knee?
@CrunchyWacko
@CrunchyWacko 6 жыл бұрын
I had a complex tear of the post horn of the med men. The MRI showed 2 cysts...1 inside and 1 outside the meniscus. My initial consultation with a standard orth surg said not to worry about the cysts. They would disappear within a year...and they did. This was Jan 2017. 1 month ago i had a stem cell transplant done by a Regenexx provider to help with loss of cartilage and the meniscus tear. Hoping for the best! Good luck and don't worry too much about the cysts. It took almost 5 months for all my symptoms to go away which is when i started investigating Regneexx.

Dr Centeno, I had my knee stem cell transplant done a month ago and had a great experience! Watched the entire procedure including insertion of 7 needles and injection. Despite the careful and meticulous positioning by the dr, why doesn't the injection of a fluid into a knee cavity full of more fluid just result in the homogeneous mix of the stem cells and other grow factors all over the entire knee surface/space. What makes them attach to a certain spot and not say to the ACL or opposite meniscus? Thanks!
@centenohome
@centenohome 6 жыл бұрын
CrunchyWacko In the case if the meniscus or ACL, the cells attach to that structure. If they spill into the joint they do circulate.
@CrunchyWacko
@CrunchyWacko 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dr! 2 questions..1. What makes them attach to the meniscus/ACL? Are you using some kind of protein marker? or something to make them grab onto each other. 2 For arthritis/cartilage on the femoral condyle is it just hope that the injection/needle is positioned properly and cells come out of the needle so slowly on injection that they don't move much around the knee cavity? The dr was quite adamant that i don't move my knee for 10min after injection. Is that how long it takes for the cells to "set"

@@user-vh4yb4ze7c I'm not Dr and not even an expert but everything i have ready suggests that the horns do not heal naturally very well. There is not enough blood flow to that part of the meniscus. Only the main body has enough blood floor to heal naturally.

Hi Dr. Chris, great video. I (male and 44 years old) had a meniscus tear in in my left knee i.e. posterior horn of medial meniscus of left knee a year ago. Though I had pain for a month last year at the time of injury. Since then, I am pain free, do a lot of leg strengthening exercise and play tennis every day, mostly singles. I have no locking or clicking problem. Sometimes I feel minor sensation on twisting motion. I am worried though that torn meniscus will damage my cartilage as meniscus tissue is harder than cartilage due to friction from torn Meniscus . Different doctors gave me conflicting opinion on whether I need a surgery. One said that we should treat the symptom not MRI finding, other said that I need surgery if I want to play tennis singles. Should I continue to play tennis with a torn meniscus or get surgery to fix meniscus tear? Will appreciate your opinion on the above.

John Power, Unfortunately can't advise you without an exam. What I can say is nonsurgical treatment is available which accomplishes solving the problem and protecting you from the damage of surgery, and, of leaving it untreated. www.regenexx.com/meniscus-tears/ www.regenexx.com/can-you-treat-a-meniscus-tear-without-surgery/

@@vinisheesingh6987 did not do the surgery. Did strengthening exercises regularly to improve muscle mass around the knee. I daily play singles tennis. Don’t have any issue. So I conclude if meniscus tear is not affecting your movement after the initial dissipation of the pain, don’t do the surgery. Slowly rehabilitate the initial injury and strengthen your muscle. Life goes back to normal.

@centenohome
@centenohome 6 жыл бұрын
Juanita Barnett, The problem is, meniscus surgery does nothing to help the knee heal, instead, it removes the torn sections of meniscus, leaving the knee unstable, and the cartilage unprotected. A better option is an injection of your own stem cells precisely into the tear. This brings the healing power of your stem cells to the tear, without creating the damage of surgery. Please see: www.regenexx.com/should-i-have-meniscus-surgery/

Dr. Centeno About a month ago I moved from our house and I did a ton of lifting for 3 days. My knee felt a bit weird and as weeks progressed the pain became more noticeable when trying to stand up or run. Now after a Month I cant bend my knee from a standing pt. more then 120 degrees without the abikity to support my weight. I got a MRI and urgent care said nothing is wrong. I have Orthopedics specialist scheduled on the 30th of this month at earliest. Im affraid it will get to the point where my other leg will get injured. Can I send you my MRI? You have permission to use it in any future videos.

My left leg locked up 4 times now. I am unable to straighten it out when its stuck. They give me drugs to relax it and for pain. I have seen 4 different doctors. I had an MRI and I was told there is no tear. What other possibilities are there? I am in serious pain and now I am stuck between BWC doctors and I am forced to wait for them to decide what to do next. Any suggestions? My current surgeon says that the MRI is inconclusive and wants another but BWC will not allow it. Anyone's suggestions would be greatly appreciated

+Jason Bogan There could be an issue with your Popliteus Muscle. It's job is to pull the meniscus out of the way of the femur. If it doesn't succeed, the knee locks. This explains more: www.regenexx.com/knee-locking-up/

@centenohome
@centenohome 7 жыл бұрын
sandeep munnu given that most patients in their forties would have a meniscus tear on their MRI whether or not they've ever had a day of pain surgery is not recommended for your tear. You may try to find a local provider who can inject platelet rich plasma is that seems to be very helpful. also realize that multiple Studies have shown that surgery for meniscus tears for any indication are not helpful and are no better than a sham surgery or fake surgery.
