I have a degenerative tear in my right meniscus diagnosed years ago. I've started to feel the same pain in my left as well. With plantar fasciitist in both feet, osteoarthritis and spinal disc compression pinching my sciatic nerve I have extreme difficulty with walking. It is true that you don't know what you've got until it's gone. I would do almost anything to be able to walk without pain. So many take their health for granted.

I was just walking and my knee shifted. My floodlight camera captured it when it happened and it clearly shifted and didn't twist. At the same time I heard a loud crack with immediate pain. I could not put weight on it at all for several days. Eventually, I could walk on my toes, not flat footed, and about a month later I could walk more normally. I had an MRI and was told it was a meniscus tear. I was using a knee brace and ice pack in the evening. My doctor told me it would not heal, but one year later it seems to be fine, but occasionally it feels loose. I'm very grateful!!

Oddly enough I was told when I was 22 years old I had a torn meniscus but never told anything more specifically. I didn't get into healthcare until I was 24 and now a RN for 5 years and graduate this December with my MSN for Adult/Gero Primary Care NP and the knee has always been difficult for me to understand. This video really helped and makes me worried I should get my knee looked at again as it causes some discomfort still here and there. But I'm only 31 years old and thinking I may need a replacement in my life for sure. There was no treatment I ever got for my knee injury, I got an MRI didn't get notified of my results until 3 months later and re-evaluated to be told it was all healed and nothing further is done. I regret not knowing more about healthcare at this time and wish I had done PT to ensure it healed properly. Bottom line always ask questions and never be afraid to advocate for yourself.

My leg looked like a holocaust survivor compared to the right one. Hang in there. It took me about 9 months to be able to jog. Now I wrecked my mcl on the other leg. I remember when I damaged my meniscus once, I knew exactly when it happened as I felt a warm explosive sensation in my knee as it perforated, not hugely painful as you mention, and I could maneuver around the damage and feel almost normal. It was only painful in certain orientations of the tibia to the femur. Fortunately straight forward walking and sitting was ok. What made it super distinctive the next day though was the knee swelled up to the size of grapefruit, the classic "water on the knee". It felt like my knee had turned into a water balloon. There was also a sandy or granular sensation on knee movement, likely bits of shredded cartilage floating around on the articular surface.
@Zuckerpuppekopf
@Zuckerpuppekopf Жыл бұрын
@IShouldNotAlwaysPlay No surgery, took about 5 years to really heal though. So surgery would definitely be faster if not more economical. Even after a few years I could still occasionally feel bits and pieces of cartilage grinding around in there, and there was sporadic "water on the knee" swelling. All of those healing issues have resolved though, but the hole is still there since if I push my legs in the extreme position that originally caused the injury, I can feel a bone on bone sensation, - fortunately it is a rather eccentric position that I normally would never encounter or pursue in daily life.

Better late than never. I have always liked you two but now I love you. I where were you five years ago tho. . I had a car accident driving my car and had 4 whiplashes, and a full hit square on my right knee. Both injuries were not taken seriously but over the next few year caused extreme pain and treatments were varied. I had three fusions on my neck and lumbar spine and got back to work teaching. One day I was walking to class and because the sidewalk was uneven I tripped and ripped my fusions and landed square on my knee. This made my knee worse and my knee specialist did not give me any of your tests to check my tendons but after a replacement and subsequent tendon problems a revision I was told my hip was bone on bone. Then I had a hip replacement that relieved most of the knee pain. I still have problems with my hip pain. If I do too much I have aching pain in my gluteus that runs tight down my thigh. I did all my rehab exercises religiously. I don’t want to go back to my specialist because we disagreed that my knee problems made my hip worse. Insurance was involved and I am pretty sure he didn’t want to do paperwork. I had to pay. for the hip surgery. It always has been a fight for me but that doesn’t mater here what I need to know is how to save my left knee. It is getting worse. Please help, the last 25 years has been a nightmare. Also my psoas os half the size widthwise as it should be. As time went on I’ve had 7 spinal fusions. I always waited until I couldn’t walk with each decision.

I buckled my knee ever so slightly and heard what sounded like hands cracking knuckles but in my knee. After weeks of swelling went down. I was able to do long walks, short sprints, and cycling. I didn't go see a doctor, but I listened to experts on my symptoms. I midly tore my meniscus. My knee pops once in a while. Constant cycling outside, walking, and some sprints have my legs as strong as ever. I do everything I use to, as I'm a very active 50 yr old man. I never let this or tendinitis in my elbows slow me down. For tendinitis, I beat by curling with weights, and it's gone, and it never came back.

I wasn't to thank you guys for this video. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome so ligament injuries are nothing new. But I recently had a really talented and amazing fall that severely injured my right knee.8⁷ My ortho told me he'd be it MRI and never even examined the knee. Never even touched it and the proceeded to give me a 20 minute lecture about my weight. At which point I stopped him and reminded him we were here to discuss my knee. Results came in and ligaments looks fine (not the first time shredded ligaments looked fine on an MRI) the radiologist called them 4 meniscus tears due to severe and unusual trauma. Dr said he couldn't actually see the full tears and that they're probably just nothing to worry about. 4 months later, I'm in so much pain that I can't function. I can't walk hardly at all, and when do, its caused pain and dislocations in my back and pelvis. Anyway, thank you for posting different tests to try to pinpoint that cause of all my knee pain Thank you guys.

Hello everyone my bad knee says hi. My left knee’s favorite activities is usually giving up on me when I play soccer and constantly sprain since I’m missing a ligament. It’s been 6 years since I tore a ligament and I never got surgery. I can still run and play soccer but because Im missing 1 out of 4 ligaments, it’s slightly unstable and will sprain easily

Several years ago, I had a meniscus tear in my left knee from doing strenuous golf swings on the driving range where being a right handed golfer, we pivot around our left knee very fast through the downswing. Being older, I also had bone on bone. Did injections for a little bit and helped some, but it was just a band aid and the pain was still there playing golf. I did not want to wear a knee brace, so finally did a full knee replacement surgery and my knee felt 100 percent after the rehab sessions. The knee is still fine and doing great playing golf.

They worked for about a year and a half but everything stopped working. I've been watching KZfaqs that say... how to prevent surgery. After seeing those I was concerned perhaps I wasn't doing something right because my knee still hurts. Point is...I have knee replacement scheduled July 31 but was thinking of canceling. From your comment it's evident I need to go thru with the replacement. Thank you. Happy golfing!!!

I am going to try the cortisone shots in a couple weeks but even my Dr. stated that I likely will end up with knee replacements in both knees. Covid and having primary doctors change positions at Mayo and one who retired have led me to having to wait 4 years to finally have someone do something. It has been a journey with an incredible amount of pain and led to a sedintary life which in itself, created more problems.

I had a weird knee incident. I was sitting and got up too fast with left leg in front and right knee bending inward and something popped loud and after that I was in so much pain I couldn’t move. I couldn’t walk on my other leg because I couldn’t hang the right leg without excruciating pain. I went to ER. I had to drag myself on my belly holding a table to get to the front door and into my moms car. Doctor took X-ray even though we knew no bone was broken ($800) but found nothing wrong. Doc wanted to give me a leg brace that looked super expensive and pain meds and that is all. So I said no I just want an ace bandaid and crutches. It hurt at a scale 10 for 2 days. On the 2nd day, I was sitting on the floor crossed legged all day. I got up to use the bathroom and the pain was gone. Like 10 to 0. A couple months later it happened again where I got up too fast with left leg in front is the back knee is bending inward and immediately felt the same pain. So this time around I immediately sat crossed legged on the floor. That worked again. I have no ideal what is going on. So now I’m just really careful not to,get up fast in a weird position. I don’t feel pain but I do still feel it slightly off once in a while when I stand in a certain position. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?

I’ve had my knee like “go” (I’ll call It that) a number of times since I was 11…. And I always just treated myself with ice, rest, elevated and when I can try walk about so it can gain from strength and/or prevent stiffness and in a couple days or a week tops I’m all good again but now I’m almost 32 just took a walk home from work made it to my apartment and took one step down some stairs and for the first time in say 5/6 years boom! It goes and of course I ended up dropping pizza I was soo looking forward to😢 but my first instinct was to make sure while I go down make sure I fall backwards and not down the steps like a slinky… and of course that’s when the pain set in and I either forgot how much it hurt or I might of done something else but my knee felt like it was on fire so I allowed myself to just get it all out scream swear maybe cry take deep breaths… then after that part was over I had to plan on how I was getting myself to a safe and comfortable spot luckily I had a knee strap in my bag so I got that around it for support and had to slide down the rest of the steps on my butt and had to use my fiancé as my human crutch to help me get into the apartment and to the sofa to lie down elevate it (squishmallow was close at hand) then I was like “okay ice, pain killers, anti inflammatory!…. Stat!” Of course my pizza survived the drop it folded in half in the box… I still ate it drank a coke cos I felt like I was going to pass out then went to sleep and went to A&E first thing in the morning!

Hey Bob & Brad! I have suspected meniscus tear from having a tibial plateau fracture. I did the first and second test. No pain while doing it. But definitely felt some uncomfortable feeling in my right knee. Also, I felt the pain after I did both exercises. My doctor said, I'm physically okay. But gave me the choice if I want to undergo MRI just to have a peace of mind.

I am a PT and have seen scar tissue (which forms during healing) cause these symptoms. Scar tissue on the tibial plateau can act the same as a méniscal tear. If it is scar tissue causing the issue, you can have it removed but there is a strong possibility that it will grow back.

I’m so glad I came across this video! I hurt my knee at work and it’s been so painful for the past two weeks since then. I’ll likely be scheduled for an mri after I see my physician again on Monday and I’m betting it’ll be my miniscus/cartlidge/“cartidge” etc (that part just tickled me lol). I’ve been walking with a heavy limp with my affected knee stuck at a ~10° angle. I can’t seem to straighten my leg while walking but I can if I’m stationary and make a point to try. The knee hurts the worst when I’m turning and twisting at the knee. All three of those exercises hurt pretty bad too.

Hey Bob & Brad, thanks for the video. I tore my PCL years ago with a ski crash. The doctor did the anterior drawer test and thought it was the ACL, but on X-rays they found out it was the PCL. So the test can come to an ACL or a PCL injurie conclusion.
@yapchenpo95
@yapchenpo95 Жыл бұрын
It’s actually due to the position of the test. When the PCL is torn, the tibia will drop backwards due to gravity, then when they perform the Ant Drawer Test, there will be excessive forward motion which makes it looks like a ACL tear = False Positive.
