He's 100% right about getting on it as soon as you can to seat the rings. I build motorcycle racing engines and I've argued with other builders who do three idling warm up cycles. I let mine idle for 20 seconds then gun it almost to redline. The cylinder pressure seats the rings and I end up with far higher compression and power. Nice to see someone agree with me.
@YansenHaryanto4547
@YansenHaryanto4547 3 жыл бұрын
I heard from my mechanic that hard break-in is not great for the engine especially for the cylinder wall and piston rings.. their explanation is "hard break-in like running it to redline will make the piston ring overheat and worn the rings too much and you will end up with lower engine compression.." what do you think? meanwhile, I just follow what the manufacture of my bike recommends..
@redbaronrefining5322
@redbaronrefining5322 Ай бұрын
This is always a huge debate and it really should be. General rule of thumb is break in the engine however you’re going to drive it. Piston rings absolutely NEED the cylinder pressure to push them out into the cylinder walls and seal properly. If you’re running a new cam and tappets, you’ll also want to keep from staying at idle and keep it around 2-3k rpm for at least a minute or two with Zinc additive in your engine oil. Doing either of these without the other or neither will lead to a bad break in. After that initial drive/run, pull her back into the shop, pop the hood, and carefully perform a hot retorque on the headstuds, check all your fluids once the engine has cooled down, and you should be good for a very long time afterwards 😊

First class video and build once again Rich! The aimlessness of that slushbox just kills me though! When I put a toggle switch on my torque converter lockup so it hooked up in every gear it transformed my old 12 valve and I guarantee it would drop that zero to 60 by a bunch.

Cleaning up the hoses and the wiring makes it look so much better. Now that is what taking pride in your work looks like! It also reduces the chance that something will melt or break. Nice job. I don’t remember seeing you cover this in the video. And I’m sure you’re aware. But fun tip, after installing the pump and before changing the timing, make sure the TDC pin under the cover on the pump has been removed and spun around. Almost every 12v I do, someone forgets this step and the flag shears off the end of the timing pin.

Love this shit. I get all my diesel information from you. Even though the overall operation of diesel engines is simpler, there are components you outline (often related to fuel injection and Turbo) which never occur to someone like me with a flat-head and 2 slant 6 Chrysler engines. One thing for me that SHOULD be universal... Gear to gear timing... I know it might be noisey, but it is positive

I really enjoyed the video . I don't see how the fresh engine with more timing would have equal to a engine that needs rebuilding . After the rings seat it should be good. One thing that might impress the owner is a 3 k governor kit . Really wakes up the motor in my option . I run a bit more timing in my old 95 and 215 injectors , 10 plate and 3 k governor kit. . Just me but the 3 k governor kit is a nice add on even if it a stock motor and a bit more timing . The timing is the one thing that I found that really add fuel economy

Great videos. I live in central Canada and build natural gas powered Cummins. We use the 8.3 and 5.9 Cummins which are fueled by natural gas or propane. Have you ever seen or heard of this before? The 8.3 makes about 99hp and just over 300ft/lb at 1800rpm thru a 200 series mixer and Woodward governor. If you'd like to see pics send me email and I'd gladly send you some

Can you do more content on that webasto? I've heard they will bring a truck up to 100*f in 15min and full operating temp in 1hr. In below freezing, burning less than 1 cup of diesel.. I believe they could be wired to a truck output on a keyless or remote start. I see nothing but pros for cold weather startups. They can be had cheap from Mercedes and other German diesels in a wrecking yard. Thoughts?
