The importance of writing real shit and not being fake af. If you feel it, the audience will feel it
@Insomnia_tic
@Insomnia_tic 3 жыл бұрын
Freedomachine not when you don’t have shit to write about. It’s similar to writing a narrative. If you don’t have anything you can make it up!
@freedomachine2185
@freedomachine2185 3 жыл бұрын
Insomniatic 0206 there's always shit to write about. In another video this guy goes through some Eminem lyrics, one that comes to mind is him talking about how he's tired of wearing the same hat same shirt, just some regular shit. Certainly it can spice things up to exaggerate, but if you're trying to become a rap legend then you gotta have some sort of connection to the audience. Why do people like love songs so much? It's relatable! Others can win the audience by having a profound / interesting story / message. There are many ways you can write, but if it's completely made up then good luck getting to be recognized with the rap legends. But like I said I think exaggeration is always okay, unless it's a biography a book writer probably tries to creatively tell a story, not tell it word for word.

Insomniatic 0206 You guys are both right, since you totally can make up a story, but even a made up story should be relatable. All the mainstream music like Migos, NBA YoungBoy, and whoever else you can think of are rapping about shit that is super simplistic and is only relatable in the sense that when they are talking about diamonds and cars people can relate to wanting it. It’s not meaningful, and the lyrics are actually pure garbage when you read and or listen to them carefully. REAL artists you can hear their passion. Mos Def, Kanye before he was extremely famous, Wu-Tang, and even people like Outkast. You can hear where they are coming from, and you can feel how much they care about the music, and they care less about how much money their music is going to make. When you are a true artist, you choose music over money. It’s easy to rap about diamonds and be flexing about your nonexistent cash and the bitches you don’t got. Those type of lyrics are directed at young kids who think “aww shit, diamonds and money, that shit is so cool! Bitches? Yeah we love bitches.” All that shit is fake. It’s not real.

My extra pair of ears are my neighbours. I got smthing else: CHECK YOUR SONG 1 DAY BEFORE RECORDING. Sometimes the song is not finished 100% (hook, lyrics) or some word or sentence is not correct (meaning). Sometimes you use the same word twice or smthing is no longer current or historical correct. It´s hard to notice that if the whole song is mastered. great video

allin ima artist myself I have a question tho as a artist should I try and make my voice higher than what it is in the studio to show more emotion? Like that’s what everyone tells me just add more emotion but the only way I know how to do that is like I have a in the middle type of voice it’s not all the way deep but it’s also not like light. So vocal wise should I make my voice higher in the studio to add that emotion?

These tips are so helpful, thank you. I think the hardest part when I sing is putting emotion into it. Even if I hit all the notes and add vibrato and it's pretty, it can get so dull if I don't feel it, especially with slow songs haha. I also feel that memorizing the lyrics helps a lot, even if it's not an obvious change. Sometimes I don't want to because reading it off a paper or my phone when I record is easier but if you remember them then you can focus your energy and voice into making the track sound better overall. Another thing is to record with low volume with the preamp/ gain etc, you can always turn it up later. And sing pretty far away from the mic depending on how loud you sing. The most impoimportant thing is probably tone. I used to think that I could get away with adding more reverb to just make my vocals sound better but it's better to add less and have the track sounding nice from the recording. As far as vocal comping goes, do you guys think it's a good idea to record choruses on a separate track than a verse? Or do the whole song a few times and comp later? It's become more popular in the modern era but I'm still experimenting with recording. Also is it better to record mono and then make it a stereo track later? 💛💛💛
