I have thought about some of the most common mistakes I used to make and that I have seen my students making when working on mixes. I knew it would only be right to bring it to the Wavy Family so we can all continue to get better.
Some of those mistakes include, not using a reference mix, mixing too loudly, and doing too much.

Something I’ve been on is what is the future of music? It constantly changes right. All these people mix to make an imitation track. But trying to make something truly original can be risky. Because the audiences will make it flop or fly. Still what if you can be a pioneer that changed music instead of just making a buck. Food for thought

Wayne... I see the Distressor and LA2A. I have a pair of Distressors and an LA2A now.... Should I add a second LA2A (for stereo matched) or an 1176? Already have the SSL bus compressor that stays there. Figured I’d pick your brain. Love the vintage, colored sound and I have other stuff in the chain etc. Sometimes I dig chaining the comps etc. Thanks!

Personally my biggest issue is getting the whole mix to gel and sound cohesive at the end. How can i better achieve that? Also when I listen to my mixes weeks later, it sounds like the vocals are a bit dark even with me boosting around 4k. Sometimes i use a de-esser for those harsh freqs.

Best tip you said that I wanna co sign is not listening. Music is auditory and not visually based. As engineers, we must provide the visual to the audience's hearing. Personally I like to visualize a band on stage and do my panning to reflect that. I also widen my drums with delay/verb instead of panning the hats etc hard left and right. Usually the kit is center stage and in the back...the width comes from the environment not the placement of the kit elements. Just my 2 cents...take it or throw it back at me...ur choice lol
