This is such a great instructional piece! I'd been putting off getting my old mac G4 desktop to a recovery service to get my kids' growing-up photos; I did have them backed up but the external drive the data's on isn't available. Recently,I changed the old hard drive from my laptop with a new one.And then I've installed a new windows on it.On the old hard drive I have minecraft,are my world saves still in appdata? Hi! This is really useful. I'm facing the same problem however my hard drive has an OS installed in it as well, along with other media that I'm trying to retrieve. If I use this method, will the installed OS in the hard drive affect the computer that I'm using to access it?

Thanks for this. I've been trying to get data off of an old hard drive, but ran into an IDE roadblock. I just purchased the FIDECO SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 Adapter that you linked to and I'm hoping that'll work without issue. It does cost more than $10, but in the end it's still cheaper than paying $50 at a shop to have someone else do it and I can reuse it on newer hard drives in the future.

I'm gonna give this a shot, my family had an old computer with a bunch of family videos. It slowed down a bunch and we stopped using it. Hopefully I can recover those videos! Update: I was able to open the hardrive. This tutorial was very helpful. When I looked at the files they were all photos from 2018, unfortunately I think our old home videos somehow weren't on this hard drive to begin with and my now be lost.

Thank you for this video. Does this also work if a hard drive disk doesn't work (and or) doesn't have cables on it? My HP one used to have a cable that was connected to the motherboard. (not sure if it's dead or not but my HP wouldn't read it anymore) I'm trying to transfer it to my Toshiba and putting the HP hard drive manually doesn't work on it.

wow... I'm 58, didn't even see a computer until my 30s so I'm not super tech savvy .my children taught me how to use one, and I eventually took a few adult classes at our vocational center. I recently wanted to throw away my old windows 98 desktop ... but I did pull the hard drive for security reasons Seeing this makes me hopeful that I can recover my children's baby pics, etc

It would be pretty much the same process, you would need to get software to allow your PC to read the format of the Mac harddrive.
