I had this problem for months and had (qualified ???) IT Technicians telling me it was impossible to reinstall Windows 10 without losing Applications/Programs, Data and Files, and personal settings. This sounded too good to be true - but I was so frustrated I tried it - AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY. Congratulations to Britecs Channel - you guys are now my favourite and I am indebted to you. I'd just like to thank you again for this, this is the 2nd time I had to do this, the first time I did this it literally solved problems that stopped me from using software that I needed to to fix my course. This video has literally saved me from failing uni since the uni was of no help to me with my tech problems.

I had a sound issue on my laptop after a Win 10 update and I tried everything to no avail nothing worked. I was even consulting a Microsoft agent and he was walking me through many things to fix for about 3 hours and nothing. My local computer store said I needed to backup my pc and pay them 90 dollars to reinstall Windows. Not only would i have to backup my laptop which means buying a 5tb hardrive but I'd also have to reinstall everything on a laptop which had been wiped. But...this video saved me about 300 dollars and so much time. Thanks to this video my sound works again. Only 6 minutes and the fix for my laptop which bypassed so many man hours and cost. Britec you truly are a Windows guru. Your videos are excellent. You have shown me tweaks and fixes other experts could not. Reinstalling Windows 10 without data lost was an amazing find for me. I second Trevor's comment below. My problem was looping at startup causing the computer to shut down every time it was started after being turned off. Had to constantly use USB flash repair tool to revert back to previous backup to start the computer. Fair warning this process can take hours to download and complete. Well worth the time. All programs and files remained intact. Thanks again for your valuable service!

It really works! I had an issue where I could not type anything on windows 10 programs like settings, search bar, etc. It took me about 1 hour to complete all the steps on this video. Everything is fixed and all my files and apps are still there. Great work!!

this works. the microsoft download menu is different now. You have to install the Installer first to get you going, then install is pretty much as described. It took me about 3 hours to reinstall.

Guys, Look at my luck: Yesterday I got the windows 10 ( 1909 ) update and I forgot that I had lots of videos ( data ) and I just went in to do the update, When I started the update I remebered that I was goint to lose the 78 videos I had in it, I was so sad and like hopeless, so I just went to the bed of how sad I was. Today, I woke up and I saw that my pc was turn off, it runned out of battery and once I charged my pc and turned him on, the PC had just stopped the update and returned to the old form, Im not lying, The pc just saved my ass, I though he would continue the update, after the charge, but no thankfully, It just gave me another oportunity and I had to the update again. Anyways, Thanks for the video, after the massive luck I got, I still needed to see how I could save my data, and this video helped me alot, It worked, and all went fine. " Today, was a good day " :)

Thank you so much for this guide. I saw a reddit post that this method might fix my valorant low fps issue and it did. Before doing this fix, my 5900x + 3080 was running at 100-150fps with some drops to 90's and low gpu/cpu usage but after repairing my windows it doesn't drop 300fps anymore.

Started this journey after cloning my boot drive (with jay's two cents help) to go from a 2.5 inch ssd to an m.2 nvme ssd, because my mobo only has 2 sata conectors active if u have 2 x m.2 nvme ssd installed in it and I needed them for 2 x HDDs. used this method a couple of days ago (july 2021 so it still works great) on my desktop i built a few years ago. kept getting blue screens and not booting properly. thought i may need a new hard drive so i tried this as a last resort, worked perfectly. installed the latest win 10 version as well as all the updates, no more blue screens and windows boots great and a lot quicker as well. thanks britec you saved me the price of a new hdd.

My laptop was taking half an hour too boot up and it was incredibly frustrating. I suspected it might have something to do with the windows. I followed this method and it worked!! It won't select the USB. The computer has an all black screen that says, preparing automatic repair. But, it stays that way now for over 8 hours.

I’m old, 65, I want to make an observation which I hope you take to heart. When you are explaining something place the cursor on you next button. Don’t start moving it all over the place as if you were Italian speaking with hand gestures. No disrespect for Italians. You move so quickly to press something that I have to rewind the video to see what you just pressed. If I am following your steps on my computer I don’t have time to hit the button you pressed because you don’t give a cursor preview of where you’re going. Part of it has to do with accommodation of eyesight. I can’t focus my eyes as quickly as you move your cursor. I would say you ave the fastest cursor in the east of the USA. Thanks so much.

My 2 year old Win 10 Asus laptop got whacked after an update. I tried sys restore, No GO! Tried Repair start up and advanced trouble shooting- (it told me my password was wrong) stopped me dead ! This method, my friend. seems to have worked like a charm. My data appears to be intacted !! thumbs up !!

Although five years old and Britec09 has posted an alternative since, this tutorial is still very much valid. My windows 10 installation was taking over two minutes to wake from sleep, it was driving me up the wall. I tried numerous 'How to speed up windows startup' guides, non of which worked. This does, but it takes a long time, at least a couple of hours in my case, but I am so pleased to find this and wouldn't hesitate to follow this again. Startup from sleep is now three seconds! Well worth it. Cheers Britec09!

You can use a CD or USB all you have to do is when it shows were to install Windows select the primary installation then select next then after it open windows.old then drag all the files you need out of the users folder

This is exactly what I needed but I cannot access the desktop and you are saying that this would only work if you have access to the GUI desktop. I have tried restore points, fix startup problems to no avail. Can you do what you are showing in the above video but at the prompt. I do have access to the prompt and I have a USB bootable with windows 10. The objective is to not lose the applications or the files. What Microsoft is proposing by keeping files but not the apps is a bit off the wall and unrealistic. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

12/22/2022: if you have any worries please read it is normal for any step of this process to take hours so don’t worry it’s not stuck. this method will not get rid of anything on your computer. when you boot it will be like it was before only with windows reinstalled.

Wow how lucky I was to find this. I was unable to run windows 10 updates. Contain error 0x8007000d. Tried so many things to correct the problem, nothing worked. This is a blessing. I did not want to have to load up programs or re setup windows. It took one hour. And everything is working with updates and if I had not done this myself I would have no idea that windows was reinstated on my system. ALL is the same!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

12/16/2022 My computer was very slow. It affected chromes' speed. I was waiting long time even to switch between tabs. I used scannow in CMD prompt and it helped a bit. I then reinstalled windows 10. My computer was working real good. Chrome was still very slow and improved very little. I noticed that when I down loaded a picture it took a long time. I turned off McAfee WebAdvisor and my slow Chrome performance problems became a thing of the past. Settings / Extensions / turn off McAfee WebAdvisor.

Would doing this make any old computer faster? Or is it just in specific circumstances?

2:02 i have something to say I did same thing today because all of my games started lagging without no reason i checked driver updates. But fortunately my pc has latest driver and windows update Then i tried many things to boost gaming performance but it didn't work. Then after reset my pc on log in screen key board and mice didn't work i mean there's no problem in hardware side. Because keyboard working very well on bios settings Be careful I tried everything i could but hopefully i have one thing to try Download the latest version of windows 10 iso file and reinstall it. Best thing is i didn't save any personal documents on local disk : C So i want to say first backup all of your data before reset your pc Good luck!

Thank you very much, today I was able to use this approach to fix scary symptoms on my Windows 10 PC that made me strongly suspect that they were caused by malware. I hadn't been able to fix them before using many other approaches. And I'm so glad I was able to keep all the programs and data.

For me it does not allow to select the "keep personal files and settings option" , A message comes down which reads ,"your files apps and settings cannot be kept because your current version of windows might be installed in an unsupported directory or you are trying to download an older version of Windows" . I read a forum of Microsoft support for this problem but no real solution , can anyone help?
