Part 1 of a new series: COMPLETE engine & transmission rebuild/refresh on the 2JZ-GE engine and A650E transmission! We’ll be replacing the head gasket, ALL timing belt components, oil pump, ALL seals like the rear main, front crank - basically refreshing the engine to give it a second breath of life.
Also great for those of you who are going NA-T/ supercharged and building your motor internals/transmission as I will be completely disassembling the drivetrain!
In today's video I will be showing you step by step how to remove the cylinder head on the inline-6 2JZ-GE engine. Every bolt, every nut, how to set the timing - I’ll cover every step of the way.
If you're new to the channel - welcome and do consider hitting the like and subscribe button! If you're already a subscriber, I really appreciate the support - it means the world to me!
In this video I'll be working on a 2004 Lexus GS 300, but it should work for most Toyota/Lexus models with the 2JZ-GE engine, with of course a few changes depending on the chassis.
2nd gen. Lexus GS 300 (1998-2005)

can not find a solid video/forum covering how to remove the bottom section of the lower intake manifold, this guy dove deep into detail and covered all bases 🙌🏻 so easy 26:03

You’re most welcome, I’m glad you found the video helpful! Honestly the lower intake manifold was probably the hardest part of an otherwise fairly straightforward head removal, thought it would be helpful to show exactly where the bolts/nuts are so that people don’t have to spin their wheels like I had to haha. Thanks for watching! 😀

@@jvst20051 in the next video, I will be showing how to pull the block from the car and disassemble it. The block is currently at the machine shop getting bored and honed, so it might be a while before I can put the head back on. I will definitely make a video for it though once I can!

Will you be going turbo in the future?
@theautochap
@theautochap Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately not, as this is my daily driver and I don’t want to deal with the hassle of getting it smogged with a standalone ECU. I do have plans to go down the NA-T route in the future with another chassis, and when I do I will most definitely document that here on my channel. Thanks for watching! :)

Thank you once again for an excellent video 👍🙏👍 Like you, I have no plans to add a turbo to my 2000 GS300. Q: Curious what you use for steps? Chilton? Haynes? Looking forward to your next video. 👍 👍 😎 👍

Hi Pale Rider, appreciate the kind words and thank you for watching! :) Since Chilton/Haynes do not make a manual for our cars (very weird because they seem to have one for IS 300s), I use the official Toyota/Lexus factory service manual. It is the most complete service manual you could ask for and has literally everything you ever need while working on a 2nd gen. GS 300. You can purchase it for around 32 USD at the link: www.emanualonline.com/search/?q=2004%20gs300 Hope that helps! And the next video in the series is coming soon, so stay tuned :)
