I love to get your advice for cleaner to be used in a Bissel carpet cleaner. I haven’t had much luck with commercial cleaners. Love your videos. 😊
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 5 ай бұрын
I would recommend using the soap that Bissel recommends for the machine. The Bissel soap is designed to minimize resoiling, i.e., any soap residue left behind in the carpet after cleaning will not attract dirt. Many professional or commercial grade products have to be rinsed and even neutralized with a rinsing agent. I don’t recommend using commercial grade products in a Bissel type machine.

I have the bissel green machine. I've had good results wiih Bissell PRO MAX Clean + Protect and Rug Doctor Triple-Action Oxy Carpet Cleaner. The RugDoctor is best for the price. I plan to try Zep Carpet Cleaner next. I did also try Carpet Miracle which did an OK job but definitely not worth the extra money. Not surre which Bissell you have but make sure you're using the correct amount of cleaning solution. I also prefer to do an extra rinse pass.

It's nice to see you back! How would you attack large, set in stains of unknown origin? When we bought our house 10 years ago, the carpets were nice, except for a few large stains in various rooms. The carpet is cream colored. The stains are large and irregular shaped, like spills. They don't smell lie pee. Anyways, over the years, I've been cleaning them with store bought sprays and different bissel shampoos for my extractor. I'd say I lightened some of them by 50percent. When the light is just right, the stains still bother me though. Any advice, besides replacing the carpet? I haven't done the peroxide/ammonia yet.
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! It’s great to be back. If they are really large stains that are already fairly light I might try using 6% hydrogen peroxide alone. Just spray it over the stained areas and allow the hydrogen peroxide to fully evaporate. Don’t use too much hydrogen peroxide, just enough to coat the stained fibers. If that doesn’t work, the next thing I’d try is step two from this video. Good luck!

@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 2 ай бұрын
@NatalieLavoie-fr9nu This will work great for kool aid! The goal of the first step would be to remove as much of the red dyes, and sugar from the carpet as possible. If there are more contaminants that can be removed from the carpet, it is best to not skip part one. If you feel like you have gone over the stain a few times and the stain removal progress has stalled, it's probably okay to skip right to part 2. Good luck! :) -Jimmy

@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 4 ай бұрын
Great question! I would absolutely avoid using steam with this method. Steam is much hotter than 100C and I don’t recommend going above 70C for the water temperature. Hot temperatures can damage carpets. Hot temperatures with ammonia can strip dyes off the carpet fibers.

Hello The Stain Guide. I have a carpet "disaster," LOL! I tried to cover a stain on the carpet in the home I recently purchased. I thought I purchased the "right" shade of "Rit Dye." I did not. So I used "Rit Color Remover." (Bad idea). Now the spot is green. I then accidentally spilled the bowl of Rit Color Remover on the carpet, upon finishing up my disaster. Now I have a second issue. In your opinion, would it be worth it to try this recipe you are using in this video? Or should I just replace the carpeting? Thank you in advance for any assistance or advice! :)
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 4 ай бұрын
Hi @user-ur6xy5ob6t, sorry to hear about your carpet disaster. That’s a tough one. I am not familiar with Rit dye or rit color remover products so I can’t say for sure if anything from my video will help. I would guess that the methods in the video will not help though, I’m actually fairly certain they will not help. Rit dye is likely a synthetic dye that cannot be broken down by hydrogen peroxide. Rite dye remover is likely a dye stripper which would have removed some of the original carpet color as well as the wrong dye that was added. I think it’s best to replace the carpet or hire a carpet repair person to come do a patch on that area. Sorry I can’t help more. All the best!

@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 3 ай бұрын
I don’t recommend using part two on fine fibers like wool carpets as hydrogen peroxide degrades organic matter like hair and wool. The dyes in your carpet are almost certainly synthetic dyes which cannot be broken down using hydrogen peroxide. If you do decide to use part two to try and remove the stain, I would check to make sure that the dyes don’t cause any colour bleeding, I.e., the dyes don’t migrate when the carpet gets wet with the chemicals. The risks of damage are likely to the wool hair itself. Part two is the exact same procedure that is used in salons to bleach hair. When bleaching hair, the hair actually gets broken down/damaged and degrades. It is good to minimize the use of hydrogen peroxide of wool fibers and only use them when absolutely necessary. My advice would be to get the rug professionally cleaned. If a professional cannot remove the stain, you may choose to try part two of this video. Before you try it, do a colour fastness test to make sure that the dyes don’t bleed. Just note that repeating step two many times may cause some fiber degradation.

There is a big difference between a wine spot and a wine stain. In that video, they are using hydrogen peroxide and soap to remove wine spots. In my opinion, hydrogen peroxide doesn’t do much of anything as a spotter. I think it would be just as effective to use a soap and water mixture, as it would be to use a hydrogen peroxide and soap mixture for spot removal. If you don’t have isopropyl alcohol, I would recommend mixing one teaspoon of dish soap with 3 cups of water and using that as a spotter. Hydrogen peroxide is a very effective stain remover though. But you need to use something like ammonia to activate it. You also need to give it a lot of time to react with the stain for it to work. Unfortunately a regular vacuum will not work to vacuum up wet spills. You will just end up breaking your vacuum.
@LearningAndGrowingInLife

@@TheStainGuide Thanks for sharing. Wondering hat do you think about buying the 70% isopropyl alcohol vs a higher concentration like 90% or higher? Between the isopropyl alcohol vs the "one teaspoon of dish soap with 3 cups of water ", wondering which one would you think would work better? I noticed there's commercial carpet cleaning solutions in a bottle like this OxiClean Carpet and Rug Stain Remover recommended by HGTV. Wondering what do you think about these comparatively? I don't have dry/wet vacuum, any suggestions on figuring out which one to buy? I tested using the hose of my Bissell vacuum to see if it can dry water from carpet, it did but not fully.
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 4 ай бұрын
I highly recommend the isopropyl alcohol and dish soap recipe that I talked about in the video. It works extremely well. It will work much better than just soap and water. I’m not familiar with the products recommended by HGTV. Generally if the title of the product has “oxi” in it, it means that it has hydrogen peroxide in it. Oxi stands for oxygenated bleach, which is hydrogen peroxide. I have a wet/dry vacuum product recommendation in the video description. I like that one because it is small and powerful.

@@TheStainGuide Thanks for sharing. For the isopropyl alcohol, I see you used the 70% concentration. Wondering what do you think about using the 70% isopropyl alcohol concentration vs a higher concentration like 90% or 99% (is higher concentration necessarily better)?
@TheStainGuide
@TheStainGuide 4 ай бұрын
My spotter recipe (Isopropyl alcohol, water, and dish soap) is intended to have about a 50% isopropyl alcohol concentration in the final mixture. I find this to be the perfect concentration for cleaning grease, oil, and petroleum spots and stains. If you used 90% isopropyl alcohol, you would end up with a final concentration of 60% alcohol in the final mixture. Not going to hurt, but the added alcohol is not going to help much on 99% of spots and stains.
