Can I do the same on my Harley engine and others metal parts that has chrome?
@ViKO35G10 ай бұрын
Haven't tried it on metal but I think it will work as well.

won't work on metal, you can use a wheel wire brush, you'll see nickel underneath don't over do it to bare metal or you'll have to re-nickel. or reverse electroplating using vinegar and salt, my favorite muriatic acid edit: hard chrome is harder to remove than decorative chrome. stay save and thirsty too 🍺

Surely it can't be that easy though? I've got an old barbell that's driving me mad because it keeps shedding flakes of silver on my dark carpet but I have scrubbed (the absolute shite) out of it and I still can't remove it. I'll give this a go

It's easy for plastic parts. I've done the same process to remove chrome from headlight housings. Haven't tried it on metal parts but I think it should work as well, with longer soaking time and some scrubbing if it doesn't come off easily.

can you use this process on metal parts? like cabinet handles?
@ViKO35G11 ай бұрын
Yes, although the process might take a little bit longer.

That only works if the chrome plating does not have metal particles in it.

So for example chrome over steel automotive parts won’t work with this ?

@@patrickwayne9074 here is what I know. If you look around how to de-chrome you will find a lot of videos where people delete chrome from toy cars. Also, people use zap purple to remove chrome from inner parts of headlights and it works too. The kind of chroma that those parts have is not really chrome. I have Toyota and some of the interior parts are chromed. Me being in Texas, I hate that coz those part reflect the sun and blinding me. None of those things are working. I even tried muriatic acid. It made the test part look like shit. I used grinder to scratch of some chrome and found that the plastic part was first covers with red metal and I assume this would be copper and then it was chromed. I found one video where the guy possibly plumber deleting chrome by hydrolysis. He dilute 350 ml muriatic acid with 100 mil water. Then connects the wire one end to 6v large battery to negative and the other part to copper coupling and drops it into solution. other wire connects to positive terminal and to the part that his needs the chrome remove from. Also dropping in the solution. If it's bubbling, then it works and after some time chrome being stripped off. I hope it works. I didn't try yet, but on the video, it worked. I hope this will answer your question. I think it will work on steel as well. Just assuming
