Much smaller kit, too. I'm sure this has more capability, but the little craftsman kit I have saved me so much damn money and frustration that I can't help but shill it for this kind of use-case. Way easier too since you don't need to drill or anything. I was really skeptical at first, but it did all 4 wheels in like 15 minutes tops.

Torque wrenches may let you go in both directions but are not made to loosen bolts. Use a breaker bar
@chrisfix11 ай бұрын
No, use a torque wrench as I explained. Depending on the brand, torque wrenches can be used in reverse as shown in this video. It is not being used as a breaker bar, it is being used to make sure you dont loosen over a certain torque.
@FusionKota9 ай бұрын
Torque wrenches can torque left-handed threads as well. This is exactly like trying to tighten a left-handed thread and just never getting to the set torque. It does not damage the tool in any way. Don't teach people this.
@kevinsosa15899 ай бұрын
Actually you're both wrong, having good points but missing the main one. When a torque wrench is building up its spring pressure it should not go from high tension to instantly loose that many times. You take the tool out of calibration. I'm not sure of you guys but I was actually trained through automotive manufacturers and this was a big no no. As well what's the situation if you have a nut that is tighter than the value you're trying for, will you leave that nut alone to not go too hard on it?
@VX38009 ай бұрын
@@chrisfixwhat’s the point, you’re taking it off, not torquing to spec
@802Garage8 ай бұрын
@@kevinsosa1589 This is nonsense. It will not affect calibration any more than using the torque wrench to click to specified torque. If you can find me any source that actually demonstrates this is true I'll PayPal you a dollar. Reversible torque wrenches work fine in forward and reverse, they are not harmed by not reaching a torque threshold, and provided you aren't going insane, turning past the click point will not damage them either as they are no longer relying on the internal springs. Basic physics matter here.

I had a locking lug nut key break removing one, just used an undersized socket on each one with a few taps of a hammer to remove them. Took about a minute per wheel. Removing the lug nut from the socket took a bit longer though but a grade 8 bolt helps.

I appreciate your video! I am in this same situation. I got a flat on a car I must purchased from a private dealer and my goofy self did not check that the rims have a different pattern than the typical and in struggling to find the right key...I'm thinking of just breaking them off...

This is the one video I hoped Chris would never upload in all the years I’ve watched him. Yes it’s educational but it’s teaching criminals too 😂

Criminals wont be using this technique. This takes 10min a wheel and makes a lot of noise.

My local wheel stealers really appreciate this video.

Hey chris, ive been watching your videos for a long time now! and i wanted you to make a video on changing the computer RAM because it really does go out and can make the timing and the battery drain as well. this would be a good april fools video

With the 19mm honda wheel locks, you just have to use a 20mm deep socket, hammer the socket into the wheel lock, then loosen it with the air gun.

Wish it was that easy in this case

I needed to get a locking wheel nut off once, didn't have the key, but I found someone who had the exact same model of car and asked them. Their key fit perfectly. Apparently manufacturers issue a variety of key patterns to each model, so either I got lucky or Renault were just lazy with the MK2 Clio. Put normal nuts on after that, no one would have wanted to steal the wheels off that thing anyway.

Hey Chris long time no see! I had success just using 17 mm 12 point socket and hammer it down😅

The kit that I had was just some sockets that were round and tapered and you just pounded them on, and you could reuse the lug nuts if you wanted to

Thank you for teaching all the kids how to steal my wheels.

Um has anyone else noticed that the hardened removal tool has stripped on the end? I wonder how many wheel nuts it removed before it strips! I have oh so many tools for locking nut removal but that doesn’t look like one I will be adding to my collection! Great video as always!

Good job on teaching the theft how to steal my tires.

Thank you! I just stole enough wheels to be able to give 2 extra sets to a small town!

Yeah I just welded a nut to the end of mine. Surrounded it with a damp rag so the welding didn't damage the rim. No expensive tool needed besides the equipment I already own

I was hopping for this tool in a local tire shop. But of course they didn't have it. The even faster method is to weld a bolt to the nut and unscrew it as usual.

If you go buy a 12 sided socket a bit smaller than the round lock nut, you can beat it on and turn then turn the locking nut off. It worked perfectly on my 2018 Ford Edge. Much cheaper than that tool set and I have a pretty good 12 point socket to reuse!

I love how no one is innocent of them hitting the tool that won't go in further just one more time to see if they can get it to go in further
