This video right here saved me $$$ on my new 2020 truck. Dealership was trying to charge me basically an arm and leg (since it was outside warranty). After watching this, did the work myself and so much better. I'm a forever subscriber and will teach my kid this as they grow up and one day have their own vehicle. THANK YOU CHRIS FIX!

I really needed this video for my car, i've taken it to literally 4 worshops but none of them were able to figure out why the brakes were squeaking, specially since i'd just gotten the front brake pads changed and the whole car serviced. Thankyou so much, this video's given me things to get checked more properly.

Chris, super well produced, accurate and insightful video (as always). One bit of constructive feedback: using calipers to measure the brake rotor thickness is often inaccurate due to the formation of a lip along the outer circumference of the rotor. I always opt for a micrometer instead. Keep up the good work!

Chris: first off, thank you so much for your videos. They've allowed me to do more work on my car than I thought possible, and helped me realize just how much can be done on my car by myself. It's becoming a hobby of mine to keep it in shape and clean (2003 Chevy Malibu with almost 278k miles.) Second: I just fixed some brake noise that I can remember if it was covered in this video or not: my brake hardware needed a little bending to be clear of the rotors (it was rubbing against the brake pad hardware which mounts in the caliper bracket.) Bonus points: I fought with a pair of sticky caliper pins for a half hour and now they function properly, and my steering wheel doesn't shake when I go over 50mph. Keep up the awesome videos! You've got +1 story now to encourage you to keep going. :)

+Shane Blandford-Scherr I've changed probably 3 or 4 like that. In one case the guy was trying to save money. He pushed it, and pushed it. Eventually, the rotor wore down as you see it, and the backing plate wore down so much it was able to exit the caliper bracket through the gap between it and the rotor. The caliper piston then contacted the exposed cooling vanes of the rotor. The piston got so hot and mangled from that, it melted the dust boot and square cut seal. He tried to save money on a simple pad and rotor brake job, and ended up paying for pads, rotors, 2 front calipers, and a brake fluid exchange. Some people's kids man...

The guide pins will rust and the rust will weld them tight to the caliper aka they are seized and very difficult to remove and will most likely need serious force and or a penetrating lubricant to remove them.
