Here I have an old Seiko 7006-5000 from 1974. I bought to do some demonstration videos on for crystal & case polishing.
Please note that this technique will only work on acrylic / plastic watch crystals. If you have hardlex or Sapphire this method will not work.
I found that this crystal had melted where clearly something hot was left on it. this had distorted the crystal somewhat and possibly I can remove more of this but I run the risk of it becoming too weak.
It is just to demonstrate that even crystals as bad as this one can be rescued.
If my videos have helped or inspired you into this hobby then I would be grateful if you could support the channel. A little goes a long way.

Poly watch is not an abrasive which is why you won’t find a micron content. It works with the heat produced by rubbing in moving the molecules of the plastic so as to fill the scratches so you don’t loose material, but rather move it about. It works best on hairline scratches so I tend to do what you have shown here, reduce the material around the deeper scratches with abrasives the finish off with polywatch to melt gently on a molecular level the plastic to fill in the micro scratches. It’s wonderful stuff!

I agree, I have just removed serious scratches from my vintage Rolex, using wet and dry sandpaper and finishing off with Polywatch. The result is astounding,, the crystal looks like new. Truly amazing stuff.

You might consider putting the sand paper on a flat surface to maintain the crystal's flat top.

Excellent, I have badly scratched my Rolex crystal and the dealer wants £100s to replace it. I will have a go at copying what you have shown here. Wish me luck. Thank you.

If it’s modern watch then it’s glass which this method will not work.

@@MyRetroWatches It is a 1969 Rolex which i bought new. It has just come back from a full Rolex re-furbishment with a 2 year guarantee, I managed to scrape it along a wall, so I do not want to pay for a full services again so soon.

I found metal polish can be a good short cut with some acrylics, only thing though is with gold plated stuff to be a bit extra careful as abrasives will munch micron thick gold plate for breakfast lol

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to polish Porcelain? I found some 1920s light switches that I really like, but they have 100 years of grime, slime, paint and what I would guess is skin oil? (from fingers) .

Jeffrey Albarando Rivera thanks for your comment. Pastes are called diamond lapping paste and cheap versions can be found on eBay . The last one I use and is most common is called Polywatch which again a search in google will find this product. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162588144626

Hello. Sorry this will only work for acrylic. So far there is no real solution for glass as its so hard that nothing really touches it by hand. Diamond paste will improve but you will be there for a very long time. Best solution is to replace the crystal.

So polywatch is finer than 1 micron
@MyRetroWatches
@MyRetroWatches 2 жыл бұрын
I dont know. Using poly you are just creating friction with the cotton wool and burnishing the acrylic rather than actually removing anything.

The VietCong found the innards of bamboo stalks made a very effective and rather dastardly means of dispatching US forces by mixing it in with pro-offered food where it literally caused hundreds of tiny pricks inside the stomach and intestine and pretty much unstoppable once ingested :(
