*FYI hit the hammer on the end of the socket extension*
First try a longer lever, heat up the engine to operating temp then shut it off and try loosening, then try this hammer trick, then use penetrating oil and let it soak overnight if all else fails.
Trick at: 00:54 Yup, just use a hammer and hit the top of your ratchet, hit it some more and add some penetrating oil, yup hit it some more and there you go it turns easily now.
Yeah I hit the top of the torque wrench a little, mine is still fine from tapping it so dont hit harder.

I just wanted to say thankyou . After taking everything apart i didnt want to put it back together and heat up the engine..my ignition coil sits on top of each plug ..and getting to the plugs is removing clamps bolts and wires .you hammer trick worked great . Ty

Try tightening plug a bit before you try backing it out. If it’s still stuck after that, or after tapping, Add penetrating oil after you have broke the seal by tightening it. Let it set then try taking it out. May have to alternate in and out and work it out

Thank you so much. My uncle told me to tap but I just wanted to verify it from someone else.

Good trick, but maybe tap the hammer on the extension of the spark plug socket instead of the torque wrench? I'm always super careful with torque wrenches, they can go out of calibration with shocks.

Yea that's true, any harder than what I did on video could probably be bad

I usually use my other torque wrench instead of a hammer.

They seize bc of steel plugs in aluminum threads too.

I don’t know. I got a seized set of 8 out of an old vehicle that also the oil pan was so sludged oil wouldn’t even flow out of the drain plug. These were nearly exposed old school plugs on the block and rusted all around. Put a good 5 second spray of PENETRATING OIL such a WD or Liquid wrench down the plug chamber. Let it soak for an hour. If no success, spray again, let it soak for a day. Never had to fight plugs like this. Some of these videos you risk breaking the plug into the cylinder, stripping the threads on the cylinder. Basically causing more problems.

The socket is around the plug, it's not hitting the plug at all

One time I had a wheel nut on my 8ton truck that wouldnt come loose with a six foot cheater bar.The biggest air ratchet they had didnt work either. The shop recommended I get the nuts cut off by an engineering workshop and fit new studs and nuts. \ Using their tools.A 6 ft cheater bar and 12 in extension onto 30mm socket I got the guy to stand on the cheater at the 9 oclock position and I hit the end of the t bar with the biggest sledge they had in the tyre shop. Got all overtightened nuts off with no damage.Always check tyre fitters work. Wont leave you in the rain on the side off the road in the dark with a wheel you cant get off.

I had the torque wrench set at 70lbs and then when it clicked, I wouldn't go further. After tapping it, it came out under 70 lbs. Best to feel it out and safe about not breaking it

@@MROSEWERKS Isn't that way too much? That would be ~95 Nm, which seems dangerous. I'm thinking that some spark plug manufacturers specify a maximum tightening torque of 40 Nm for M14 spark plugs. And if you factor in that the head is made of aluminum...

Marvel Mystery oil. Let that soak overnight. This stuff will unfreeze stuck pistons.
@mk-yi8pt
@mk-yi8pt Жыл бұрын
stuck piston? i think you mean seized pistons and if they are actually seized then it wouldn't... a fully seized piston is almost welded into the cylinder wall because of a lack of oil which thus causes friction, leading to extremely high temps and ultimately a piston welding itself to the cylinder

I used something called liquid wrench, I'll write that one down tho

@@MROSEWERKS i have 3 cans of liquid wrench... project farm tested it alongside wd40 and a bunch of other penetrating oils and he found that heat worked the best (oxy-acetylene torch) and liquid wrench came in 2nd place. Its definitely good stuff

This would not work for me because I use deep well sockets and because they are deeper than the spark plug and it’s hex, hitting the socket, ratchet or extension won’t transfer that vibration to the spark plug, only the cylinder head around the plug. Furthermore, I’ll bet most of you are using a deep well, and this works, it’s a coincidence.

Get ya some PB Blaster and fill the well of each spark plug on a cold engine. Let sit for a half hour then do it again. Start her up, let warm up for say 20-30 min. then shut her down and immediately squirt each plug thread body with PB, where it meets the engine. An expanded hot hole, then a cooled shrinking plug and pop, out she comes.

Dicey, risking combustion in the plug well. I think may work without running engine.

Don't use a torque wrench. We've used a breaker bar before. You can also use a 1/4 or 3/8 inch battery-powered impact wrench set on a light setting.
