Replacing the rear spring on 2023 KTM 300SX-This has got to be the easiest method!

I need to remove the rear shock on the KTM 300SX and replace the spring with a stiffer unit. I think this process is the easiest method. The new spring is a Race Tech 5.0KG (201-632550) unit better suited for my weight to achieve 105mm riding SAG. I used a KTM SAG scale (00029090200) and hook wrench (90129051000) in the process. #ktm #motorcycles #motocross

I just dropped my skid plate , and took preload off spring by turning it up. and dropped spring with shock still on bike. 30 minutes tops

Well, if I could add a pic I would. Leave shock in and remove spring from bottom. 2 bolts, done. Great video though.

You can loosen the collar that hold the spring down and thread it all the way to the top, take the one bottom shock bolt out and swing the linkage out of the way, take the spring and raise it to the very top with your hand and hold it up, then take the white collar off the bottom and the shock spring comes right out the bottom. You don't have to take everything apart and takes about 10 minutes. Slide the new spring up , replace the collar at the bottom, swing the linkage and replace the bottom shock bolt, thread the top collar down to the spring and tighten it up. Set sag

Taking the rear tire, caliper, swing arm pivot bolt, 2 shock bolts, and one pivot arm bolt is really easy and fast. I just removed my shock then reinstalled it in 30 minutes. It sounds much harder than it is.

I just took off the linkage on my fx 450 and pulled the spring off while it was still on the bike, literally took off the bottom shock bolt and the linkage bolts on the bottom and just pulled the spring off out through the bottom. Just use a floor jack on the rear tire to align everything. never even took off the top shock bolt.

Well don't use this method. RTFM and it will tell you exactly how to do it.

You don't have to remove the entire shock to change the spring.

This is absolutely the most difficult way to do this job. It is literally a 10 to 15-minute job to loosen the preload on the spring, drop the linkage off the shock, and remove the large circlip on the bottom of the shock. The spring then slides right off from the bottom. No need to do all this work.

I have to agree. I've watched numerous videos and never have I seen anyone take the bike apart to this extent. Never seen one of the remove and twist the subframe. One guy simply removed the rad shroud, removed one bolt to pull the side plate out, removed the silencer and then just the few bolts and removed the entire shock.

@@scottsgaragehtx439 I'm trying to find it. The guy pulled the shock out from the bottom, I can tell you he took off a radiator guard just so we can see it better so you don't have to do that, he took off the top bolts and pulled the sideplate back (stuck something in to keep it wedged open) pulled the muffler off, and I believe that's it. I'll try to find it.

@@scottsgaragehtx439 Found one....put into YT search "How to remove KTM SX linkage rear shock fast"......this isn't even the one I was referencing but I watched this one too! the entire vid is like 30 secs! (Sped up of course).
