A small demo hammer with a wide chisel bit is better. Often the vibration will pop off the tiles intact or in bigger pieces. It's also great for chipping off excess thinset

Which demo hammer and chisel do you like? Lots of options but I’d like to try that on my next project; that said, I like showing this method because most folks are on a budget

@@HomeRepairTutor I recently bought a cheap one (ENeAsro brand) I think it was just over a hundred bucks. I needed a slightly smaller one for one job in a tight area so I took a chance. it's pretty lightweight, and has a hammer drill setting. it's great for removing cement prior to tuck point repair. I even broke up a piece of sidewalk with it 😂 because I wanted to see if it would. the case kind of sucks. if you keep the grease full and give it a break when it feels hot it should be great for everyone if they choose the right bit.

@@HomeRepairTutor it might have been 125. I expected it to be junk but I needed a small one for one job. I am seldom impressed by cheap tools but this one is pretty impressive

@@hackiehackerson I bought a Bauer rotary hammer from harbor fright. $110. It's 10 amp, but it seems to be perfect for a shower in stripping. It's good because it's not damaging the backing like a regular hammer and chisel, or what ever.

I agree with the drop cloth (canvas) and maybe a 4 lb “baby beater” sledge (term er used in the Navy long ago for small sledge hammers. glad the backer came off easily. it’s a lot of work. and right tools to cut down time saves in labor

The backerboard under our tile is screwed down. The mortar is really thick on the backerboard, so it has to come up

Use a rotary hammer to eliminate that tile. Much easier!

This room was sealed off using a ZipWall, so all the dust was contained in the bathroom, not great for me, but it worked extremely well

Very good tips - l will be removing my kitchen tiles. I like to know what's the best way to cut the tiles close to the cupboards because when l had originally had the tiles placed l had no cupboards!
