In this video, I'll show you how to completely delete your 2017-2020 Aprilia Tuono V4's or RSV4's charcoal canister, or evap canister. This includes removing the canister, the bypass (regulator?) valve, plug the airbox inlet hose, and run the fuel tank breather hose. There are a few different reasons people choose to do this mod, and I explain as many of those as I can think of. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Chad, that is a brilliant step by step video with an excellent description of exactly what you are doing. You really nailed it. I noticed the Marco 58 sticker on your bike also, good one. I was a big fan also. We are now starting our 6th Covid19 lock down here in Melbourne, Australia. We only just came out of our 5th lock down a few weeks ago. This is the dreaded Delta transmission. We are prohibited from travelling outside a 5 kilometre radius from our homes so the bikes are sleeping in the garage. A message to everyone "get your vaccinations now" if you haven't already.

Your government has gone totally tyrannical trading your freedom for [fake] safety. What a horrible situation. Cov|d isn't going anywhere, ever. It's not like the measles, mumps or rubella; a vaccine can't eradicate it. It's like the regular flu or common cold virus in that regard. You need to elect new leaders who understand this or you'll be in lockdowns for the rest of your lives.

@@IndyMotoRider I totally agree with your comments, our government have been thinking that they can get back to zero Covid cases but after 250+ days of lockdown in 2 years, they finally realise that they will not get to zero cases and will need to live with Covid as it will never go away. Instead they are now pushing for 80% of the population to be double vaccinated before they allow us out of lockdown which will take until Christmas.

Understand, I wanted to check if you planned to do a video on valve clearance because id just dropped $990 on my valve check at the Aprilia dealer which I thought would run about $450 so with that said its the last time they will ever see the bike. Since its still under warranty I didn't want to open if up and give them an excuse to void my warranty on any engine related issue. Your videos are well thought and and detailed
@hiimchad

Yeah I’m surprised the valves were so far out of spec already. My bike runs great so I’m not too concerned about it. $990 is actually pretty reasonable for a dealership to check and adjust. Dealers around me have quoted $1,250-1,600, but there are independent shops that will do it for just under $1K. Thank you! Appreciate your compliments and feedback. 🙂

@@hiimchad So, pressure when i open fuel cap is bad or normal?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
@@everydaylogic2198 it means your charcoal canister is plugged. It can get worse over time, and my understanding is that it can get to the point that the fuel pump can’t generate enough pressure to pull fuel because the canister is blocking air from being pulled back into the tank to refill it. That’s when you run into issues with the bike starting hot, or dying unexpectedly. This doesn’t always happen, but it has been documented on the Aprilia Forums.

@@hiimchad ok thanks. Another question- if i do the canister removal like in your video, why must i extend the hose all the why down like you did? can’t i just terminate it where the canister was?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
@@everydaylogic2198 I extended the hose so the fumes from the tank would exit as close as possible to the ground, since the fumes are unfiltered without the canister. It’s just a safety measure in the unlikely chance an excessive amount of fumes came out or if the bike fell over fuel and fuel vapors wouldn’t be released as close to a hot engine, reducing the risk of a fire.

I'm hoping the new tuono is very similar to the previous because I'm experiencing this on my brand Tuono. I'm actually in the break in period(275miles) came home yesterday and heard a whistling noise while putting the bike up? I put my ear by the fuel cap and noticed it coming from there? I knew automatically it was pressure and slowly cracked the cap until the pressure relieved. Interesting how this is a problem. I did noticed the pressure the first tank of fuel. Can't believe we have to deal with something like that. Thanks for video hopefully my bike is setup similarly.

This just helps me figure out how to take off the fairing by the canister. I’m going to changing my coolant to engine ice so that’s will be my next project soon. But I’ll definitely do this evap canister soon as well. I’ve seen my bike get to 230.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
If I recall correctly, there may be one more of those plastic clips on the righthand side you’ll need to pop out with a flathead, but other than that, it should be the same. Glad this was helpful! 🙂 Also, as TuonoFever mentioned below, if your bike is tuned for an exhaust and doesn’t have the exup valve enabled, you can remove the servo motor for that to free up some space behind the radiator as well. It’s in basically the same spot as the evap canister but on the other aide of the bike. And one more thing, I would recommend Redline’s Super Cool over engine ice. Should provide a similar cooling effect, but still contains additives to keep the water pump lubricated. I’ve heard stories about Engine Ice doing some nasty things to engines long-term! I run Super Cool in my race bike and it stayed under 217 out on track in 100F+ heat!

Besides the charcoal cannister if you have a Race ECU or other flash make sure to remove the exhaust servo which will open up the airflow on the right side. Also I run Open Flash Tablet on my 2017 Tuono and the fans are set to come on 195. I rarely see over 204 on a hot day in slow moving traffic. Hitting back country roads pretty hard I never see over 190
@hiimchad

Great recommendation! I did remove the exhaust servo, as my bike has the Aprilia Race ECU. It would cycle through a check when I would first turn the power on, but wouldn't operate afterwards due to the flash. I unplugged it and removed it, which the previous owner chose not to do for whatever reason. My Tuono RR had an OpenFlash. Might need to look into picking up one for this bike eventually. Nice to know you can adjust the fan threshold. Thanks Mark! Hope you've gotten your bike fixed up since that little drop!

Question: so we're basically running a hose from the vent port of the fuel tank down to the bottom fairing? I've ridden Japanese bikes that do the same typically the hose or line is down by the kickstand. I wondered though why they dont have a EVAP canister like the aprilia? My 2020 R1 was like this? Anyway thanks for the video and answering my question about why I had all this pressure in my fuel tank and I could even hear my tank expanding and contracting.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
Glad you found it helpful! Not sure why your R1 doesn't have a contraption like this. Maybe it's a component of the fuel tank, and better designed so as to not build pressure? There must be some kind of part like this somewhere on the bike, otherwise it wouldn't meet emissions. But, if it doesn't cause issues and you can't see it, it's a part well done. in my book!

Hi Jocelyn! Good question, but I can't say for certain. I don't think that it will though. The charcoal canister is what prevents fuel and vapors from making it to the atmosphere, and I believe the valve opens as pressure dictates, so at some point I think it would still vent fumes. Hi Chad - Need some help with race ECU for my 2018 Tuono Factory. Is there a email id I can contact with details about my situation and issue I have currently?

Hey Prashantkumar! Not sure how much help I’ll be, but feel free to send me a direct message on Instagram. That will be the best way to get ahold of me. Don’t check me email often. My username is chadsnaps, and there is a link to my Insta in the About Me section on my channel. 🙂

I see theres a kit for this mod that comes with a dongle. Says the dongle is to prevent any F.I. errors. Is this dongle necessary?
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
It may depend on the bike, but if yours is a Tuono V4 or RSV4, no dongle is needed.

@hiimchad Yea, 23 Tuono V4 Factory. I just found a better description on AF1, says not needed if running race ecu or race map. Thanks for replying.

Ok thank you. Just Bought a 2017 RR. And your mirrors. I saw your video of all the upgrades they were done but they were not descriptions on the list of the parts they were there. Looking for the bar and yours as well. Thank you for making content I’m excited about to punch in. Thank you

@@hiimchad thank you so much. Ones more than you for your help and kip on giving us more. what kind of flash program you recommend for the RR
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shinob66 My Tuono Factory has Aprilia’s “Race ECU” flash that can be installed at a dealer. The best value is probably getting an OpenFlash tablet. You can load one of their tunes up to your bikes yourself, update maps as you upgrade parts, and even flash it back to stock all on your own. My Tuono RR I used to have had an OpenFlash tablet and tune, and the bike ran great!

I just removed the entire canister bracket and just zip tied all the wires up securely.

Nice one , grabbing an RSV4 Factory 19' I'm willing to do anything to keep the bike in top shape! However if this is a problem why would Aprilia keep this on the machine given that their whole ethos is about refinement?
@hiimchad

You have fine taste my friend! 🙂 This part is for emissions unfortunately, so it doesn't seem to have been an area of focus for Aprilia and thus can cause a bit of trouble.

I guarantee this was the issue that was plaguing my 2013 Tuono with massive negative pressure built up in the tank and shut down my bike I thought it was ECU issues. When you open up the gas tank a huge sucking sound would happen where the nozzle would go in.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
That's 100% due to the eval canister. My tank did the same thing. Hasn't happened since I removed the canister!
@stevenreeves4766
@stevenreeves4766 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand why you need to remove the check valve on the one hose. If you just disconnect them from the canister they are plenty long enough without extending them.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
The how-to I found on the forum recommended removing it. I didn't really give it any additional thought, but don't see any reason you couldn't leave it there now that I mentioned it so long as the check valve is still working properly.

Is it the textured hose on the right that gets plugged or the smooth hose on the left? I think I may have messed it up 😬
@hiimchad
@hiimchad Жыл бұрын
You don't want to plug either of the hoses to the fuel tank. Those hose that gets plugged is the one that is not in the center of the eval canister. It is textured and runs up to the airbox. Sorry for the late reply, and hope you figured it out, but check out 13:09 in the video for more details.

I don't think this would have an effect on any valves, whether the engine's or the check valve, since I removed that.

Removed that stupid part at my EC 2020 Tuono. Its an absolute useless part just to fullfill some stupid European regulations. The next step will be an update of my ECU, which has a annoying jerk during acceleration in the 2. gear from low revs.

The ECU flash will be nice! My throttle is still a little snatchy but only below 4k rpm. Above that, it feels good. 🙂

Not for me sorry. Don't want gas smelling bike in my garage.
@hiimchad
@hiimchad 2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough! For what it's worth, mine has only produced a fuel smell twice and both times it was after I filled the tank as close to the top as I could without overfilling, and then immediately parked the bike in the garage afterwards. Hasn't been an issue other than those two times, and I'm careful not to fill it up too much anymore. 🙂

Hey James, mine has only smelled like gasoline if I have filled the tank very close to the top and immediately come home and parked it. It hasn't been an issue for me otherwise. As far as it being a safety item, do you mean in how it prevents gas fumes from being inhaled?
