Airbnb is a great place to find your home for the first month in Bangkok. If you unfortunately choose a lemon, Airbnb is usually quick to find you a new place. And there is no risk of stolen deposits as well.

Agree 100%. I’ve rented a few airbnbs during my time here and they’ve mostly been good. The one time I had a problem AirBnB stepped in and resolved the issue 👍

Thanks for the tidbit on which landlords often don’t give back the deposit. :D Until now, that wasn’t a parameter on my condo-finding checklist.

It’s not as bad as some people make it seem, but definitely a few things to watch out for.

Good overview about the condo market and the various possible issues. The great thing about Bangkok is though, that there is a loooooot available in all kinds of sizes, conditions and price ranges. Easily a couple of ten thousand empty places. Whereas in my home town of ~4m people in Europe right now there's at best 1k condos available at any time. Cause almost nobody is building. And Bangkok makes things so super easy with far more modern buildings with all amenities.
