How to repair a Heki Mini Rooflight Interior Frame

A common fault with the Heki Mini caravan rooflight is that the plastic tabs holding the blind screens break causing the string to come away from the frame. If this happens the blinds will not close properly. Here's the solution to repair the frame and re-string the blinds.

Thank you! I had no idea what was wrong with this screen mechanism until I viewed your clip. We have the Midi Heki which has a different set up and a LOT more fiddly to restring because you can't see all of the rails and have to wriggle it a little bit to fix it. But with your demo I figured it out and wrestled it back together. The hardest part was finding a proper screw to replace the broken tab.

Thanks loads excellent easy to follow instructions and satisfying when completed. I had no cord, previous owners probably cut it. So knowing how the cord was threaded was a great help. I would never of worked it out in a million years, 4 metres did the job. Couldn't find new crimps anywhere so ended up using the crimps from 12v elec blades. its back in the van now and working perfectly. cheers.

You have such and incredible calming voice. I was so stressed having this thing in pieces with strings looking like spaghetti. It took about 3 tries. The screws are rubbing a little bit, quite a few tabs were broken, but it works. That’s all I wanted. Thank you🙏

Thank you John! You saved us a ton of money and time as our 2013 Dometic Power Roof Light with slide shades is no longer available. We followed your instructions and watched your video a few times. First, we opened the power panel and disconnected the wiring. The shade frame pulled down easily as you described. 2 tabs were broken and strings hung everywhere! We're thankful the string loops were intact. It took two of us to restring both loops. This was a brain teaser project for sure. Now our 8 year old power roof light shades are working again :)

Would never had figured how the strings went without your video John so thank you!! Even thought it may have been your van at the point of taking the rooflight off and it having a screw in the exact same place 😅 Three more screws added and re-strung with ease.....Thanks again!!

Thanks for this great video. I searched a lot but no other video explained it as good as yours. Thanks to you, I could fix my one which was missing all strings completely by the previous owner and I had no idea how they look like and how they are installed. Hope you will share more videos like this with us. Best regards from Germany

I watched this video three times before I dared try to repair my rooflight. I still can't figure out why it's configured as it is, and I can't figure out how it works BUT I followed your instructions to the letter and, HEY PREESTO, we now have a rooflight that lets in the light when it should and keeps it out when it should. GREAT VIDEO!

Many thanks! My original cord actually just rotted probably with age. I wasn’t in a place to buy from a supplier so I’m just using twin at the moment which is making it a bit harder to open and close but it’s done the job until I can get round to doing it perfectly. Thanks!

Thank you very much for posting this video. It was easy to follow and enabled me to replace the broken strings in my blind. The only thing I didn't have access to was the metal crimps to join the strings. Instead I tied a double knot to tie the two strings together to create the loop. So far this has held up well.

Good first step. BUT. If your fly screen is spring loaded, only string the blackout part of the unit. I was confused, until I realised my fly screen was spring loaded therefore didn't need to be strung.

Same question, don't want to brake it
@ianhughesroyalenfield
@ianhughesroyalenfield 3 жыл бұрын
@@patricklonnee4929 I had to take mine off to try and discover why the mechanism had gone limp. You do literally have to prize it off. I use a thin bladed dinner knife, just slide into the gap and gently twist, working my way round and round until it eventually came off. The clips are small metal things with teeth which are quite grippy, so patience is the key. I discovered that the reason for the limp mechanism, was that a piece of the string retainer had broke. Couldn’t repair it, but decided that as the replacement was silly money, I would just leave it. I will get round to doing it eventually. Hope this helps.
