How to Repair a Shallow Well Pump Bearing and Mechanical Seal

This video walks through how to disassemble, repair and reassemble a shallow well pump and motor so you can repair worn out motor bearings and a worn mechanical seal. The pump shown here is a Simer 2803 1hp shallow well pump, but the procedure is almost identical for many brands such as Everbilt, Red Lion, Drummond, Bur-cam, Mastercraft, etc. Instead of throwing out your noisy or leaky pump, you can take it apart and for a few bucks, replace the worn components, and put it back into service, or keep it as a spare.

A bit of grease on the bolt and screw threads will make it easier to get apart the next time. I recently disassembled a Franklin/Jacuzzi C series pump and snapped a bolt off even after working at it slowly and using penetrating oil. The motor end case is aluminum so it really corroded with the dissimilar metals. I was able to drill it out and clean it up with a tap but what a pain. It's nice that many of the newer pumps have stainless steel shafts. 30 years ago I replaced bearings and seals on a GSW pump and after only 4 years the shaft was badly pitted where the moving part of the seal was located. I filled the voids with epoxy and ground it smooth. Thanks for the video and shopping at Canadian Tire.

I have a leak in the housing unit for the impeller, would that be the o-ring?

You will have to look to see if it is coming out at the shaft seal (mechanical seal) or if it is at the outer ring (o-ring).

I noticed the newer looking capacitor. Would you please tell me what were the motors/pumps symptoms while it was failed?

Hi Bob - if I remember correctly the motor would vibrate and make a hum. I pulled the fan cover off, powered it on, and gave the fan a push to start it and it ran. That's when I concluded the capacitor had failed. Thanks for watching the video!

If you can get the bearing part number - something like '6004-2RS' off the side of the bearing you would have lots of options. Google the part number to find local suppliers and online options. If you can't get the part number then try to find an everbilt part drawing of your pump and search that up for either an everbilt part or the info that you need to cross reference to a generic bearing part.
