A good honest video which makes a refreshing change from those videos showing miraculous like new results. This video is honest and shows a honest true result. This method with a razor blade seems unbelievable as you think a metal razor blade will damage the paint. But this guy states clearly to use the slightest of pressure. Just one hint for you bud. A slightly better result could have been obtained by using a thicker paint, a thinner brush and doing shorter sections. This reduces massively the amount of excess paint. Yes it takes longer but the results make it worth it. Very good video m8. Well done 👍

Finally, a process I can get me head around. I thought you were going to use the blade to shave down the high spot but when I saw it used as a spreader of the paint I loved it.

Hvala unaprijed.

I'm curious about how this will work with a metallic beige paint. I think I'm gonna retry it with this method because the clear is really thin (previously repaired from previous owner) and I already burned through by accident on a tiny spot so I'll try this as it has a lot less leveling required

As a detailer myself that is a very very good touch up, in come cases this touch up has a better outcome than actually respraying the whole door because depending on the color match and in most cases the metalic flake in metalic paint types when it's sprayed can make the whole door stand out under sunlight and at night under street lighting.

Great technique. I wonder if taping on both the sides of the deep crack, forming a very narrow visible surface and then doing this technique, will avoid the excess paint on the body and limit the work area?

Also after taping paint only scratch with touch up. Do around 4 or 5 layers. Then the scratch will be filled. Then remove tape and wet sand until there's no ridge on the added paint.

Thanks, I like the idea with a razor. My biggest problem in these kind of repairs is the sanding process when You not only sanding out the excess of paint but You're also sanding out the clearcoat that sits all around. You may end up getting through to the base color and then the problem gets worse.
@joebloggs4191

Still worth a try, if the worst happens take it to the paint shop but if not you may well end up with the results achieved in this video and you will have saved yourself a few pennies.

It would take a lot of effort to go through the clear with 4,000 grit paper. If the paint had been compounded and polished a bunch of times then perhaps but if it's virgin clear coat the 4k paper isn't going to cut that much. You'd have to apply quite a bit of pressure and really go to town to get through it.

I did this on a few scratches on a black car. The result is acceptable, but far from "as new" (But of course way better than do it with a scratch repair pen). Yes, it's not noticable from 1 meter and hard to see on camera, but when you sell your car and teh buyer inspects the body panels carefully, then he will notice it. But of course you did your best to repair the scratch and that's the maximum you can do with it.

Nice work. Just one point of criticism though: In your final segment, the outside scene, the focal point of your video is set pretty much to infinite (the trees reflecting on the car's panel are in focus), making it harder to judge the result of your work. Auto focus will usually do this, because the trees (or any other objects reflecting on the car's panel) are pretty much the only discernable objects for auto focus to act on. Because it's hard to have your recording device focus on a car's panel, I use the following trick when I want to photograph or film a defect on the panel: put your finger right next to the point of interest, and then have your camera focus on your finger. Then lock your focus. Now you can film the car's panel with the correct focal point. Instead of a finger, you can also use for example a piece of cloth. Anything that the auto focus mechanism can "use" to set focus to the correct distance. (I hope this was somewhat clear, I'm no native English speaker).
@Amddetailing
@Amddetailing Жыл бұрын
First: this is a channel where there is no obfuscation second: it is better to do this than to have to paint the entire side third: if I wanted to hide it so it wouldn't be seen, I couldn't do it with the help of focus fourth: watch the other videos where I show with my finger from a distance of 2 cm where the lawsuit is and what is left of it until it is not noticeable from a distance of 10 cm.

You can just use wet and dry paper (used wet). After using all the papers, finishing with the very fine paper, I use a cutting compound which in my country is called T-Cut. To get best shine the paint must be fully hard. Allow two weeks for it to fully dry.
