In this video I will show a simple repair trick. How to repair dents and cracks in walls and ceilings and make them easier to find. Often one of the worst things about repairing walls is finding all the patches once they have dried, this trick will curer that problem. Also it can be difficult when you are seconded coating your patching to remember where they are an which ones you have done for a second time. This little trick will also fix that problem as I will show you how to make yours repair easier to find for sanding. Painting tips and tricks.

Great tip. What about when using a light coloured paint - any chance of the tinted filler showing through?

That could depend on a few things, I did make the point not to make it too dark for that reason. Most times you will need to touch up the filling with some primer/sealer and apply at least one coat over the top. So as long as it's not too dark it will be fine. @@howtopaintinfo I started using line chalk blue powder just mix in a little and so easy to see. Better then dealing with tape I guess its basically the same as the way you do it. Love the video's

Can this be done with a coloured paint instead of tint? Can’t get to any paint stores with lockdown and Bunnings is my only option. Unfortunately they don’t sell tints.

Ask them to put some tint in to a cup or buy a plastic sauce bottle and put some in that. Paint will work but will also change the way the filler dries. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

One major problem I have always had when using plaster you fill in larger size dents size of softball or larger then come back to "try" to feather out the edges & thinking looks right to the eye but when it is painted later the edges are standing out like sore thumb..just seems cant get the edges to blend in with rest of the wall no matter how much sanding edges still looks rough.. Stuccoing is much easier then plastering the edges can be easly feathered out with a sponge float as its drying but trying to sponge float on plaster will only disolve the plaster causing more problems of having to go back & fill in the dips & dents..

That's why I usually fill two and sometimes three times, make sure you don't over fill and don't leave edges thick so its easy to sand. Using coloured filler will help you to see how thick the edges are. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

Do you use the base coat for all your filling and patching? Is there a difference between this and topping compound?

For most of my filling I use base coat, top coat is for finer filling and base coat is for deeper holes as it dries harder. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

If it’s a previously painted wall how do you match the patch with the texture?

There are times when the previous person has rolled the walls a bit heavy and left a bad orange peel affect. The only thing you can do is fill the holes and give it a good sand. Most of the time it should be ok but depends on how bad the orange peel is the patch's might stand out a little. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.

SO you use gyprock filler....... I found that SO hard to sand back. Is there any reason you didn't use polyfiller?

I find that using blue chalk powder in my filler is easier to cover when painting.

That's great, chalk powder is a good idea and yes you do have to be careful not to add to much tint as it can make it difficult to cover. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe
