Is it a Hayward super pump?

Only a few people have the variable speed pump. Doesn't make sense to pay that much when you can put a timer on them for 100. It's great if you don't take care of your pool.

@@VIPPoolsandSpas Thanks again as I was able to replace per your instructions. It took longer to get the new pump wired up because of the heavy gauge wire, and to get that housing gasket to stay in place then it did to change out the pump. Amazing how much better the new pump works with much more power now....

@@destinyreturns4885 any gasket you have an issue with, just put a little bit of silicone around it and stick it in place. Won't fall out.

Whatever volts you have coming in, that's what you set the motor at. If it was 230V before, it will be 230v again for the next motor.

@@VIPPoolsandSpas I understand... but what's weird is that I ONLY measure 125V at the wires and not 230V!

@@theclutch19 Are you getting this when its hooked to the back of the motor or when the wires are disconnected?

@@VIPPoolsandSpas Hooked to the disconnected wires leading into the motor. I have a black, white and ground wire. Meter hooked to the black wire and ground = 125V. White to ground gives 0V; which tells me it's neutral. The internal motor temp safety trips. I measured the outer casing to be 280F. The actual 20Amp circuit breaker does NOT pop unless I hook up the motor to 115V setting. Logic tells me that when the new motor comes in, I should set it to 115V. But then why was this current motor and the previous set to 230V? Seems like someone installed incorrectly. But then I wouldn't have thought that the motor would last 5 years.

@@theclutch19 Measure the black and white together. Should get 230v. It will trip if you hook it to 115v because your getting 230v. Whats heating up? The new pump or the old one?

For the Hayward pump in the video it's 220 or 120. There's a clip on the pump. Can switch it to 120v if that's what you have coming in.

The old pump was 230 volts and so was the breaker and wire rated for 230v. It's the wire size (gauge) that your aloud to use. Whatever country you might be in, check to see what your rules are. The wire you saw in the video is a 10/2. If it was a 14/2, I could hook it to 115v. I would have to change the pump over to 115v also. Doesn't matter where the wires go in that video, there's only 2 wires and 2 lugs.

Thank you for the help. My pump is 220 and my concern was did the red or black wire matter on which line connection screw they go on .
