Very well done guy. Went to start my pump for the first time of the season and it was just humming. Then tripped the beaker. Tomorrow I'm going to check the electrical connections then make sure there is nothing that caused it to seize up by pulling it apart but I'm thinking it's shot and needs replacement. Thanks to your video, I'm sure I can bang it out no problem. Thanks so much for posting this video.

Yes they often cease. Shut off the power, spin the Impeller from the back as I show to free it up. Then turn it on. Should start right up. Bearings are probably on the way out and should be replaced before they burn up the motor.

I understand that the mounting plates have a specific orientation with respect to the pump housing. But, does the motor itself have a specific orientation with respect to the mounting plates? I’m asking because I’m looking into getting a VGREEN motor and I don’t have the room if the controller portion is “on top”. However, if I was able to turn the motor 90 degrees, I could fit it. Thanks for the great video!

Hi, thanks for the video and was interested with the least is better idea! I currently have super pump 1.5HP which tends to overheat and cuts off. As it more than 15 years old I was thinking of replacing the motor and most poll places around specify that with my size of pool 82,000 litres absolutely need 1.5 hp. Any thoughts on this? thanks
@QuaabQueb3 жыл бұрын
If you have 1.5" diameter pipe you can put a 10 horse power motor and it will not change any thing. You can only move so much water through the diameter of pipe that your pump uses. Note that the larger horse power pumps use larger impellers to move more water. The amount of flow restrictions in the pipe are also a factor to the rate of flow...so at the end of the day spending more money on a more powerful pump does not always equal more better....
@protectionman4 жыл бұрын
I accidentally left the basket out of the pump when I was bypassing the filter and taking the dirt out of the pool when opening. DUH one of those moments. So now it seems the pump is clogged and is only sucking at about half, so the pump is still primed. Is there any easy way to unplug the pump without having to take it all apart and replace the seal, etc. to get it up to full suction or has the dirt and leaves destroyed the seal? I have replaced the seal once many years ago and your video is a good reminder of how it was done. Please advise, thanks.
@QuaabQueb4 жыл бұрын
It is not the seal, the impeller is just clogged. Remove the 4 bolts that you see on the back and the entire motor will come out from the strainer basket housing

The pool needs to be open!!! great video thanks, I had read the fix before, but happy to see a video on doing it ...(Will just jiggling the shaft work? no need to take off the front and turn impeller?
@QuaabQueb4 жыл бұрын
Likely ceased up from leaking water... motors are designed to pull air through the front vent where they always leak from and draw it all through the motor before exhausting out the back. Shit design. Make sure to always replace the mechanical shaft seal at the first sign of a leak.

I own an old 1.5HP hayward pump and there is a crack in plastic. My neighbour offered my his 1HP Hayward pump for free and it has the newest basket seal (unlike mine which was a pain in the butt screw on top). I noticed the bolt pattern in the two different motor mounting plates are different. Do you think it's safe to swap the motors? My 1.5 motor works great, but the plastic crack is causing me a lot of air in the line issues.

@danivanon2 жыл бұрын
the model number on hayward our pump is scratched off, but it looks similar to yours. I'm concerned of buying the wrong model. So I'm wondering: as long as the horsepower is sufficient will all these motors fit? Or is Hayward strict about model numbers lining up?
@danivanon2 жыл бұрын
Also does the pump need to be disconnected from the PVC pipes when changing the motor? Or can you leave it all attached?
@QuaabQueb2 жыл бұрын
You must get the correct horse power rating for your pump as the higher HP units have larger impellers and move more water. If you put too weak of a motor on a pump you can burn it out prematurely. Try looking at the ID tag of the motor it self.

I made this video after making my longer video: "How to Replace a Hayward Pool Pump Motor - Complete Video" Of course on that video people complain about it being too long and too much information, so I guess you really cant please any one these days.
