Hey man-you saved my Sunday morning! I woke up to find my baby's diaper was... well... let's say it was "overcapacity." Had to drop him in the bath at 7:30am to scrub him up. Just as soon as I do, the faucet won't turn off! I knew the cartridge was on its way out, but I didn't think I'd be reckoning with replacing it before Home Depot even opened. Your video made sense, even to a guy who hadn't been able to make coffee before having to shut off the house's water supply. Liked and subscribed.

That "oil" is silicone grease actually, but no matter, excellent tutorial, thank you. A tip for everyone: put the bathtub plug in before you start, that way any dropped screw etc. won't find their way down the drain. I made a puller from the appropriate sized spark plug socket and some washers for spacers and a bolt with matching threads for the tap. Worked well.

Thanks for the video. The last time I had a constant trip I called a plumber and paid $350., And the guy didn't even have a cartridge puller and had to borrow one of my wrenches. It was in really tight this time, so I bought a cartridge puller for $14 and it came out with no effort. The instructions that came with the cartridge were horrible because it was all pictures and not words. I could not have accomplished the job without your help. I had an issue putting the now back on, such that it just spun and had no "hard stop", but it turned out there were two plastic pieces that fit into each other and I did not have them aligned properly. It did have to do two trips to the hardware store and it took me almost all day, it felt good to have done it myself. Every time I call a contractor, I always feel like I am getting clipped. I liked your comic video inserts (especially since I live here near Scranton and "The Office" put us on the map). BTW, unlike you, I did not make it through the job with no bad words.

This Guy, you are hilarious. Loved your Video and have done this change out many times over the years. I watched you to make sure I’m getting the correct part. 1 recommendation I have for the viewers is to spend more and by the all Brass, replacement cartridge, because it will last for many, many years, verses the Plastic junky ones, I’ve had to replace yearly with the hard water we have. One more suggestion is to purchase a Silicon spray, to stave off buying cartridges, as you can spray that into the cartridge and rotate the parts to free everything up for a year, wash, rinse & repeat. I use the silicon spray on the new inserts as well in place of what they give you, but I will add silicon grease to the rubber o-ring & rubber outer parts to keep the insertion and removal as easy as possible without damaging the seals for reuse. I have 1 last tip if you do not want to pay for replacement parts. Buy Price Pfister brand Faucets, because they come with a lifetime part replacement warranty & now instead of trying to find your old part, you simply take a picture and send it to them for no hassle replacement parts that come shipped free in about 7 days. For an extra $100 or so at purchase time, it’s really worth it. I just replaced my downstairs sink Hot & Cold cartridges and Handles due to stuck screws & on a separate order I replaced my Kitchen Sink Faucet Hot Water Cartridge and Handle. *The handle issue was partially my fault because I wasn’t using a metric Allen Key to unscrew the locking screw on the handle and stripped it out. Luckily, the new handles came with the correct Allen keys.

My Moen shower faucet would have lated for years I guess except for one plastic part inside, an anomaly, a small disk that you set to regulate the temperature, chipped. It has a cut out portion (like from 12 o'clock to 6 if I recall correctly) and depending on how you place it, it sets the parameters for the temperature. Suddenly only cold water was coming out, so I got a new valve from the company under the warranty. When It was replaced I saw this damaged plastic part. It's nothing I could have broken because it's inside there.

I moved into a new construction home four years ago. It has the Moen Posi-Temp showers installed and since Its just me and my wife, only the master bath shower ever gets used. Last year the shower head started leaking so I replaced the cartridge. I'm not a handy guy and it took me a long while to figure out the cartridge had been installed wrong (I can't remember the issue). I know this because the shower handle was always tough to turn prior to replacing the cartridge but after replacing it, i could turn it with one finger. Looking at the other three showers in the house, they are also hard to turn which tells me they are also installed incorrectly. While they work fine, is it advisable to go back in and install the cartridges correctly? If yes, is it OK to reinstall the same cartridges or should I get new ones?

Just the water main. Turn it off then open the cold water somewhere else in your house. Preferably another tub or shower. This will purge the pressure from your pipes. Then you are all set. The water heater isn't pressurized without the main on so you are all set.

So when I removed my old cartridge I noticed that only one side had the black piece while the other was missing. Could this cause a leak inside the wall by chance? Asking cause this one is on the 2nd floor and I noticed a small stain on the first floor ceiling directly under where the shower is at. Just trying to determine if that was the problem for the small leak or maybe my shower floor is just leaking. Anyone help is greatly appreciated.
@ThisGuyProductions
@ThisGuyProductions 2 жыл бұрын
You definitely have a leak somewhere but its hard to diagnose the cartridge as the culprit without seeing it. You should have noticed water around the exterior of the cartridge if it was to blame. If you live in an area with hard water you would also potentially see scale buildup confirming it. Did your house experience a hard freeze before the issue? If so, it could be a water leak around joints. Hopefully you wont need to remove sheetrock to find the issue. Let us know the outcome.

@@ThisGuyProductions Thank you This Guy! A person did answer and I think she was correct. It was a big help, and I jotted down her directions and took them into the shower with me. Let me say first off that going to u-tube for answers is great 'cause folks are out there who will really help. A while back Amazon upgraded the Kindle(book reading machine) and before I knew it, the interface had changed and the "go back" button vanished. Literally said "go back" very straight forward. While I was able to figure out the new streamlined look and functions, not being able to simply "go back" was crazy. I wasn't alone. I read several posts of complaints till finally someone explained how to use the "X" that works in sort of the same way, just not so straight forward.Back to the faucet; In this case, one would think that Moen would at least have directions on this feature. When it's pictured one sees a button, although if you didn't;t know it was a button it may just look like a little circle design. The faucet is called "temperature regulating" and this button is something some engineer thought of because uncomplicated isn't good enough. Here's the scoop: Turn it on from cold (12 o'clock) to hot all the way (6 o'clock) Then, if you want it even hotter, push in the button and reverse direction counter clockwise. That's right, you turn it like you are shutting it off, but if the button is pushed in that makes it hotter. When you turn it off-or close to off-the button pops out and it is supposed to go back to the original cold to hot. There you have it, except that the button sometimes won't push, it's hard to tell if it's actually pushed, and my husband doesn't believe that works at all. At this point, it's set to set it to suit all tastes. I think(but am not sure) that the setting it stays on is with the button pushed in, and the handle pushed back to about 4 o'clock. That makes it a bit hotter than the normal setting. But, as I say, that's just a guess because it's not odvious if the button is pushed in and I'm just letting well enough alone for now. I vaguely recall that when I got it I heard (or was told) that it was like this so if one than more people use it they can customize it. I guess that means that if the hottest isn't hot enough, this is a way to do it without turning up the water heater? Or, I guess one could open it up and actually adjust that little plastic part in there to change the temperature range at the source, which I'm sure you know about that. I think that's a standard thing on faucets. Thanks again for helping folks.

@@georgetteconstant9050 Thanks Georgette. I am going to research these as I have never heard of these types of faucets. Do they have an external power source to heat up the water?
@georgetteconstant9050
@georgetteconstant9050 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisGuyProductions No, I think it's something or a setting in the value that overrides the temperature stop. Does the little plastic thing look like a disk with the area from say three to twelve (like a clock) cut out. So it doesn't have any external heating source, just lets you up the temp setting temporally. It's called a Thermostatic value. I finally learned that the handle all the way down (6) is cold, and up towards noon is hotter. The value lets you go further than that for hotter water, and then pops back out to normal setting if you reverse. I never use that feature, my usual setting is fine. Keep up the helpful handiwork and thanks.

I’m watching your video in June 2021, I’m hoping you see my question ... my husband and I have watched a few videos, including yours, and of course they’re all pretty much the same. We’ve managed all of the steps without much difficulty until we get to replacing the “retainer clip” that holds the cartridge in place.
