Just did this procedure to replace the valve cover plug. Worth noting that the stock exhaust has a big black box thats in the way. Its worth taking off that box for WAAY better access. Not nessicarry, but will save a lot of headache.

1/4" drive with swivel is the key here on these bolts, especially the front one that is near impossible to get on with a socket because of the top of Egr valve. Thought the 1/4" swivel was going bust because my civic egr valve has never been off at 206,000 miles the nuts were pretty tight but I kept steady pressure on the nut and its broke lose . For you guys who cant find the egr valve, its because you dont have one. Vtec models had them.

hello, 2001 honda civic , the EGR valve set of plug/connector is not coming out of the passager side of the motor, as seen in the video,,, there is a smaller connector that seems to go down to the motor,, what do i do about the wire/connector/cable whatever you call it

My 2002 lx doesn't have it there and I'm reading 0300 codes after replacing the plugs and coils, finding no vacuum leaks, pulling the intake manifold and cleaning it and changing the fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank. Runs terribly. Could the EGR be plugged or the ECM malfunctioning?

Honda must have changed something up for 2004. My son's 04 Civic EX has 2 studs & nuts holding down the EGR valve. The front stud is a good 1/2" taller than the nut, so I cannot fit a shallow socket onto it. I'm hoping I can locate a thin deep well socket to fit into the space.

Use 1/4” drive short socket, lightly warmed engine you will have to tap it down lightly to seat it fully on the nut, leave that socket on, use a wrench on the rear one, take em up together 🤘🏽

@@drakescholes4166 long sockets and extensions are the way to go. Remember how he cleaned up the oil...that can be as a result of the black circle/cap to the right of it. That cap has an O-ring which tends to be a common culprit of oil leaks. Replace that as well. I was able to find an OEM unit for under 10USD.

my dad changed the egr valve on my honda civic ex because the code was p0401 and now the check engine light is back on. any idea if the code needs to be reset. thanks.

+Patricia Gonzalez There could be multiple issues with the vehicle, here are a few possible causes: The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced here is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup The EGR valve is faulty The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vacuum

could this be a solution for misfiring on all cylinders and random misfire on 03 civic? have replaced plugs and coil packs. no shaking of car or really anything that feels like an actual misfire. 03 EX 171K

@@kyriosbernardo3158 my civic started acting weird about 50 miles after taking my egr off to replace the cam plug oil leak I had. I just replaced the egr gasket like 500 miles ago so the one I had to replace when I pulled it this time came off pretty clean except a little bit left of motor. I just used my nail to get it off. Just bought an actual gasket scraper and a new gasket so hopefully it fixes it. It starts up good. No shaking. But if I turn my ac on it will kinda shake the car. If I drive the car for an hour or so it will get to a point of dropping the idle so far it just dies at red lights. Im thinking it has to be something with how I put my egr back on. Car runs perfect before I took it off the second time.

Does anyone know why there might be coolant leaking by the egr valve like in the video that he cleaned? I have same problem and I'm afraid there could a be a coolant leak...

I was finding that out today and it says that the coolant jacket is right next to the exhaust ports in the EGR/Thermostat housing and if the gasket breaks, exhaust gas can enter into the cooling system and blow water from the coolant reservoir but that’s what I’ve been reading from other people

How on Earth did you get those two bolts off? You seem to angle the socket in there but in my case, it's not enough. I cant a grip on the bolts. Are you using a really shallow socket?

No, we just used a normal socket on those guys. It's possible that yours were replaced with something other than the OEM parts though. Try spraying a little penetrating oil on them before removing, see if that helps. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?KZfaq&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393

Soren Lausen Yes I had to use a very thin socket with a small little 12mm on the end and pushed it on there as hard as I could while turning and managed to break it loose

I tried to remove the egr bolt but it so tight that I lost the tread of the bolt. Please help!!!

I can’t get mine off either! The one in the front I can only get an angle on and it keeps slipping.

My local Honda dealer wants $178 to replace the ten dollar plastic cam plug just adjacent to the EGR on my 2002 1.7 Ex. I am thinking I could replace both the EGR and the cam plug myself for much less.

Dose my 2001 honda civic lx have a egr valve cant find it got it already with after market throttl body and cold air intake cant fine it mine is the non vtec model let me know anything helps at this point mine just turns over and will not start and smells flooded after tuening over i think it is egr cause i got spark got fuel got compresion

Im experiencing P0304 apparently all my cylinders are misfiring. Could a bad Egr valve be the problem? Should i replace the egr valve in hopes that it fixes the misfiring cylinders? i dont know much about mechanics but im doing my best to fix up my car. Any advice would be appreciated

Jonas De la Rosa harbor freight has a nut stripped stractor tool set , it worked for me .

Try tapping the bolt extractor socket onto the nut until it is completely on the nut. This will eliminate nearly all slippage of the socket. Don't forget to use a flexing joint socket adapter for this, too. Makes life a lot easier.

LOL the debris is from that cam plug o-ring letting oil puff out the engine.... you can clearly see cleaning it up won't fix anything but you take your time to clean it up. lmao
