I was able only to take the screw off of friends m18. I was trying hammers, impact driver and later 1000Nm m18 impact wrench but even that did not brake the chuck loose. I think at this point I will just cut the chuck off with angle grinder like I did on one other drill, the next time I get there. All of those fast tightening chucks are crap to use for drilling, all round drillbits are spinning if I don't tighten them using wrench. Best to replace with old style chuck with tightening key, if it's used for drilling in metal.

Thanks, Jim, my Milwaukee is free spinning. With this information i can get it repaired. You know the funny thing about cordless stuff these days is that a few years of owning them....they change the battery storage and footprints of the lithium batteries. I always want 2-3 batteries. BTW...Ryobi stuff. Yes, it is inferior quality to a good Dewalt or Milwaukee...but if someone gets itchy fingers it isn't as painful. Secondly, i own a boat that i keep in Mexico. I bought a bag of Ryobi stuff...a drill, sazall, skill type saw for about 150 bucks. I even take them on my jaunts for a couple of weeks to a month and don't worry about them like i would a fine Milwaukee. So, fellas...they do have their place in the tool kit bags.

Welcome Allan, I had one battery go on me. I find the batteries very expensive now even on sale. I have a Ryobi saw that I am very happy with.

I've had the same Milwaukee batteries for 10 years nearly and just bought their newest drill to use with them. I haven't seen Dewalt change their form factor for batteries in a long time either.

Does your chuck loosen up because of the abrupt brake. Mine’s done it for a while now, I want to replace it with a jacobs or a better chuck.

The chuck on my Milwaukee drill just spins around. The retaining pins inside all came out- basically just fell out one at a time, but now the chuck won't tighten down on anything. Besides the fact that the screw seems stripped, even though I've never removed it. Is there any hope? I love this drill but unfortunately a lot of people have borrowed it, abusing it, and I've been hard on it too, but still works great. (when working!)
@GabrielMillerd Жыл бұрын
Look inside the throat of the drill, the bottom of the chuck is an actual hex bolt. Put a hex key in for that and don’t “break the drill” as described here

Great video I would like to know as to why has my Milwaukee cordless drill brushless ,packed up twice in 5 months , the problem is the chuck gets stuck does not open and makes a cranky noise on and off so will need to send it back to Milwaukee again Any tips on how to preserve the Milwaukee cordless
@JimMcLaren1950 Жыл бұрын
Hopefully Milwaukee is replacing the chuck. After the warranty and still not working I would buy a new chuck. My chuck had roof tar on it and chuck would get stuck. Once I changed the chuck it works fine now. Other than spraying it with WD40 I don't have any other solutions.

I a Milwaukee hamer drill/driver, i got jsut a year and have maybe used 3-4 times. Ive noticed the chuck is slipping sometimes when i try to loosen it. It makes a sort of rattling, grinding sound. Most times when i tighten it back up it does grip. Im wondering what could have caused this to bad so quickly?

There is some applied from the factory, it wouldn't hurt and if you ever take one off you'll see the blue residue
@garyr7027 Жыл бұрын
The original screw has blue lock tight, so don't use the red lock tight for replacement, use either the blue or use the orange lock tight... which is what I always use on just about anything. You use the red stuff and you may never get it back off. You do not want maximum strength lock tight.

I got to the point of putting the Allen key in the chuck, striking the key with a hammer in the same direction you did, but mine will not budge. I'm afraid to strike it too much, might ruin something... any ideas?
@JimMcLaren1950 Жыл бұрын
Try spaying some WD40 and let it sit for awhile. I used a Rubber mallet it was fairly large. I hit it with some force. You may try large pipe wrench or Channel locks to see if it will loosen off..

@@JimMcLaren1950 thanks... I did managed to get it, put the Allen key in the chuck and a pair of vice grips on the end of the key. Held it tight and pulled the trigger on the drill on max torque in reverse... she broke loose pretty easy.

@JimMcLaren19502 жыл бұрын
@@terretulsiak you might be able to get an easy out in there to remove the screw. Depends hiw badly the screw is damaged If you have another drill you could try drill a small hole in the screw so the easy out can grab it. Remember left hand thread do you need to turn it to the right to remove the damaged screw. Getting the chuck off will be challenge. You need to get something jammed in there to be able to remove the chuck. Since the pins are not there to grab onto. Good luck.

The video and instructions are ok but at closer look, the hex key trick is not the correct way to remove the chuck. After the screw is out, the chuck should be unscrewed with a torx key. That is how it is meant to be done.

Like all these "removal" video's, the screw holding the chuck on is always loose, with no info showing the absolute 'b^ll%ck's of a job it is to remove it, before taking the chuck itself off. If you buy a milwaukee replacement chuck in the UK, you get two new screws with it (short and long) but get some spare screws first anyway, as YOU WILL ruin the original screw.
