Just came back to provide updated feedback, I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale. Thank you this was a great video for anyone who’s never done this before. Once the task was actually done I realized how much I was over thinking it. Your instructions were very clear and informative I was able to get the car back running after the other sensor broke because the belt stripped and got wrapped up on the pulley. Although I did go with a cheaper option than the Delphi sensor. Both options were from Napa Auto Parts, hopefully it holds up the car started on first crank.

@@GrimRepair HI, So I did this repair and also did the camshaft sensor, because I thought it might be a problem, too and also easy and cheap to do. Forgot the part about testing before buttoning up everything...bad idea. I attempted to start the car and it just cranked...no start. Looked around and noticed the belt was off the pulley a bit on the balancer. I reset it and tried again...same thing. I put the belt on 3 times and every time, it shifted a couple of teeth toward the engine. I went under the car and noticed I can see the reluctor rings from the inside of the tire. I didn't look at this before starting so I don't know if that is normal, but it seems like it shouldn't be exposed at all. I feel I seated the balancer all the way, but not sure. I was trying to rewatch the end of the video, when you were lining up and checking the sensor in relationship to the rings and everything seemed good. I am kind of stuck. I pulled off the balancer again and reseated, but not sure it's any different than the first time. Any help is greatly appreciated!
@GrimRepair
@GrimRepair 2 жыл бұрын
If you line up the keyway on the crank with the slot in the balancer it should seat pretty easily. It sounds like it's not seated though if your belt is sliding off. What was the car doing before that made you suspect the crank sensor? Did the balancer get damaged when you pulled it from the engine, using the puller? Also did you use an ac Delco sensor?
@Cudagirl1970

Thanks. It was lined up ok, I just needed to have someone hold the flywheel, while I torqued it the rest of the way. I, initially thought the impact wrench tightened it enough...all good now! Thanks, again, much appreciated 👍☺

Great video! Thank you! Please Help! In both signal wires with the sensor disconnected: I only get 4.95 V each wire, not 7V. (2004 Buick Le Sabre). The power wire reads 12V. When I connect the sensor, the signal wire's voltages drop to a constant 1.6V and 0.6V. No on and off signals are created when turning the crankshaft. No reaction at all. I tired new ICM, 3 different sensors and they do the same thing. It started when I replaced the CKP sensor to an Acdelco Gold sensor. Car ran for 2 minutes, died, and there there was a metallic sound like a screw falling, and she never started again since. What is wrong? I checked grounds, fuses etc, and found nothing.

Hi! I have that same car and also a 90 Le Sabre with the same motor. I wanted to know if you use the impact to tighten the bolt back up
@GrimRepair
@GrimRepair 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use one on the clamping bolt for the sensor. You always have to exercise caution using tools of any kind. Some impacts only make 20ftlbs some make way more. Some people go crazy with an impact. Some people use them everyday and never have a problem. You shouldn't use impacts for tightening, everything has a torque spec.

4 years ago our Buick had intermittent misfire/no start; local shop charged FORTUNE to replace crank sensor and ignition module. Flash forward today, exact same issues have returned from the grave. Swapped ICM, didn't fix Doing extensive looky loo, have noticed leaking gaskets top and side, the side of block is completely soaked in oil and fluid. Wondering if oils/fluids dripping downwards are shorting out the crank sensor Could that be feasible?
@GrimRepair
@GrimRepair Ай бұрын
I wouldn't think it would short out the crank sensor it has a weather tight plug on it. See if this video helps you, It took me a few trys to fix the intermittent problems this car was having. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrBjY69yz5e8j3k.htmlsi=0nML7tcAWSuFDhIy

I cannot find a genuine ac delco 213-279 Crankshaft position sensor. Is Dorman brand a good choice?
@GrimRepair
@GrimRepair 12 күн бұрын
@innovativeguitars3998 I wouldn't go with anything but delco, I used standard brand on this repair, and it didn't work. I did knock sensors on a hummer made by dorman, and they didn't work. Hi. What issues did you have with the "Standard" brand cranshaft position sensor , on past jobs with the same motor? Was it they didn't last long or did the engine not run quite right? Just wondering. I know some gm stuff works best with newer 2000 and up gm vehicles.

I used 2 different standard brand sensors on the car in this video and the car wouldn't start at all. I used dorman knock sensors on an h2 and the check engine light came back on, put ac delcos in and everything was fine.

@@GrimRepair Have you ever had to do a "Relearn Procedure" after intalling a new crankshaft position sensor on a 1991 buick lesabre? It is a procdure i assume to adjust the on board computer to recognize and adjust ignition system to a new crank sensor installation. If you have done this procedure, can it be done without a scanner? If so, please explain.
@GrimRepair
@GrimRepair 2 жыл бұрын
@@Slim1423 I haven't had to do that. Is it needed on something that old?
@Slim1423
@Slim1423 2 жыл бұрын
@@GrimRepair ok. Some brand crank sensor companies mention the relearn procedure may be required for my 91 buick lesabre to work properly. When i replaced my crank sensor recently, the car runs erractic for a few seconds and cuts off. It also seems to be misiring like the timing is off. The new sensor isn't broken, and it was aligned with a spark plug feeler gauge.
