Thanks for the helpful video! I have some notes to add from my experience replacing my sensor today: 1. If you look straight-down the engine through the little holes between the throttle body and valve cover, you can actually see the sensor. This makes its its replacement 100x easier! Put a flashlight near the firewall angled towards the sensor and you can see it pretty clearly. 2. It looks like my car had the original sensor (black and rectangular, vice silver and cylindrical). The original one has the electrical connector 180-deg opposite...with the lock toward the bolt not toward the transmission bell. This made getting the socket around the bolt impossible. The connector had to come off first. I pushed the locking mechanism in with my finger, then used a pair of standard pliers by using one of the jaws to push the lock the last little bit for it to disengage and the other jaw to clamp down (gently) on the side to put it off. I followed the video on all other parts and it worked out like a champ!

Hey if you don’t mind me asking and if you’re still there , you think you can tell me , did that fix the problem? Cause my car has a starting up issue, takes a while to turn on also cuts off. Will that crankshaft position sensor really be it to solve it all?
@JJ-wg4zw
@JJ-wg4zw 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have to agree with you taking the beauty cover off the engine makes this fix way easier. Depending on your angle you can see it on either side of the intake runner closest to the trans. Also I'm pretty sure the starter is right down there so if you have a magnetic flashlight you can stick it on that and get some good light down there. Everything else is pretty much aluminum so you don't have a lot of other options if you're trying to find a spot to get your magnetic flashlight to stick. Also a great tip from others is to stick a piece of paper towel on bolt when reinstalling. It's way less prone to falling out of your socket and extension and way easier than trying to just use your fingers to get back in.

I just completed this repair on a 2005 Altima, also with the original sensor. EVERYTHING I touched was very difficult to move because of age, and contamination with dirt. It took me about 2 hours. For the original sensor, Need to remove the connector before removing the bolt securing the sensor. It was very difficult for me to get the sensor out. I had to use pliers. It was very difficult to get the new sensor in, it kept popping out. I ended up putting it in with the bolt tab aligned slightly up, then twisting with my thumb while pushing. This got it in place at a bit of an angle, but then tightening the bolt brought it back flush. For the New sensor, I could not get the connector on once it was in the block. I tried with all my strength. This meant having to remove the sensor from the block, and since it was so difficult to insert in the first place, i was quite upset. But it came out fairly easily, then I installed the connector and pushed the sensor in the same way I outlined above. Tightening the bolt did bring it back flush, so I guess it is in there ok. This was one of the more difficult jobs I have done, and I am mechanically competent. The lack of access and clear sight along with the new rubber seals being hard to install made this very challenging. Good luck to all who try it and may it turn out for you like it did in the video.

A few points I learned. If it is the original part, you will not be able to get a socket wrench around the bolt. The electrical plug is to close to the nut. Newer parts have corrected this problem. You need to unplug the electrical first. As for being able to see it. With a light down below, if you hover over the engine, there is a clear top view of the plug and screw so you will be able to line up the socket wrench or unplug the electric. I spent hours trying to remove this part. Once I saw from top view, everything went fast.

I found going from underneath is way easier as long as you can get your arm around the right side cv axle. Didn’t need to take anything off to get to it. Only needed a 1/4 inch ratchet with a short 10mm. Video was still very helpful tho! Showed me where to find the sensor 😎 love your videos!

to me it just seems easier by lifting car car around 15-20 inches and throwing a jack stand under and getting from bottom... especially removing the clip without breaking it... from under side view with your camera there shows to be nothing blocking view of the sensor...I am broke down in parking lot and will try this today...thanks for sharing

You made it look easy. I just replaced one on my 2006 altima 2.5 4 I removed the starter and still couldn't see it. My luck putting them side by side to compare them is I would put the old one back in.I had to replace the engine. Instead of overhauling the engine I ordered a Japanese imported engine from N J. It seems to be near new condition. I think it would have been wise to have installed a new sensor when I had the engine out. Started changing the Valve seals. They are a birch. The little valve keepers are hard to deal with. Found out the guides were worn. The timing chain was holding the crank shaft up. Beutiful SL with 225 k. on it. Ran good and used a lot of oil.knew I had screwed up when I started it the next morning. Its a cash car as is.It turned out to be expensive at a little over 4 k but the wife loves it.

2006 Altima 2.5L wouldn't start, replaced fuel pump, still didn't start. Ensured fuel pump was working by removing the fuel line at the pump and turning key to ON for 1-2 sec, and pump spit fuel into rag covering fuel line. Reconnected fuel line and figured must be missing spark. So, ran check engine code, and code said cam position sensor was bad, replaced cam position sensor, and car started right up.

I could not get the new CPS to go all the way into the hole. The O-ring is to big or something. I tightened the bolt as tight as "comfortably" possible as to not strip the threads but to at least get a halfway seal on it. The car is running so I don't know if it's a huge issue or not. I would guess at minimum I would lose oil or something.

Did this today and it was horrible! Cut my hand in 8 places and took 3 hours. Mine was snug as hell and had to rip it out with plyers. Then the new sensor wouldn't fit in the hole! I screwed it in hoping that would force the other side in, but it didn't work. What I had to do was take the o ring seal from the old sensor and put it on the new one. Since the old one would be compressed more and it might actually fit in. And that worked! No codes now and this pain is finally over.

Guys i changed this sensor last year on my ‘06 Altima. It’s a Nissan flaw. This car has 2 of these sensors. The one behind the engine is a bitch to change, you just have to feel around and it takes time. The other is on the side of the engine, underneath the air intake hose. I did both sensors, which are about 90 bucks each. The flaw is that the original Nissan sensor was designed with a plastic barrel, which is utter stupidity on Nissan’s part, and the newly designed one has an aluminum barrel. This problem is prone on these cars. If you haven’t changed it, you’ll have to eventually. Also, make sure the one Nissan sells you HAS the aluminum tip on it.

+Free Spirit Usually you will get a code, or sometimes the vehicle might not start at all. We carry the replacement sensor shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them www.1aauto.com/nissan-altima-frontier-sentra-position-sensor/i/1aecs00043?KZfaq&CTA+Comment&

This is for the Transmission speed sensor, not the crankshaft position sensor. you can clearly see that this sensor is not on the engine, it is on the transmission

Actually the sensor you replaced was replaced before. Original is plastic and different shape. Also if you compare this aftermarket sensor with original NEW sensor from Nissan, the aftermarket one is a little bit longer and it gets hit by the crank shaft, which that's why it gets bad. I think at this point it is worth 50$ more for original one so you don't have to come back and replace it again. Just my 2 cents.

I noticed the cam sensor on on my 2006 Altima 2.5 original engine was plastic. It was broken but still worked. The imported used engine. Had a metal one.my guess is it came new with a metal one.my new one from O reily is called original equipment. I paid more for the one with the lifetime warranty. It is metal.

I replaced cam/crank sensors both to address my car turning off while driving, so far so good 2w+ later. I found some other comments but wanted to add my own: the gasket is quite tight, and putting the crank sensor in requires a ton of force I was unable to muster. What I ended up doing putting it in as far as I could, putting the bolt in some way, then was able to use a screwdriver on the side without the hole to shove it in. Basically a lever with the bolt as the fulcrum Lastly, make sure you plug in the sensor *all* the way. There was no click, but you shouldn't be able to pull it out. Made this mistake and it worked itself out to cause the same intermittent start issues over the course of a few weeks and just had to make sure it was *actually* plugged in all the way.
