Thank you! Both of the front door handles on our '96 Camry were broken after different ice storms. I've never fixed anything on a car before (I'm a 59-year-old woman) and I was able to replace both of the handles after watching this video. The best part was the surprise on my husband's face when he went to get groceries out of the car and the handle was fixed (he didn't know I was doing it). It really gave me a boost of confidence! He asked me if I was going to tackle a small dent on the front next! I couldn't have done it without this video--thank you, thank you!!

This video was so helpful to me. I replaced the driver's side outside door handle on my grandfathers '92 Camry in about 45minutes after watching this video (IM ONLY 15). One door handle down, 3more to go :)

This video was perfect. I love it when my mechanic tells me a procedure is too complicated and I manage to do it myself. There were only two things I would add 1- If you have the tiny door tweeter, you have to remove the cover of the speaker to access the fourth door bolt 2- if you have electric locks you need to unbolt that component from the handle in order to remove the handle from the car

David, is that component bolted to the door frame or to the handle?. I am undertaking this project next week to replace each lock cylinder. They freeze up every winter and need to go. Just for a laugh, I asked Toyota how much time they would charge to do each door. They said about an hour and a half EACH at over $110/hour.

Thanks guys, don't think I could have done it without the video. I ended up not having to unplug the power (just let the door hang). The biggest problem for me was getting my hand into the small space and pulling unlatch bar out. Took me about an hour and didn't have any screws left over ;)

Thanks! I just wanted to say thanks. I could have not put my new door handle on without the video. It just took about an hour+. I did drop one of the screws from the handle and it went as far up to the front door as it could. Lucky I had a long magnet on an antenna like rod. One little hint I could give is if you look down between the glass and door frame you can see parts of the handle good, like the rod and clip. Also I saved the clip from the old one just in case. Also I used a screw driver to help get the clips off, the flat side. Thanks again 1A for the GREAT video!

I have a 98 Camry with a broken inside door handle on the passenger side. This video has helped me tremendously because I didn't have a dealer close by to replace the handle for me.

@crazyitch21 The latch is located on the outer edge of the door. It latches the door to a post on the body of the car called a striker. If you can take the door panel off, you may be able to reach inside of the door and release the latch by pulling on the rod that opens the door.

The outside handle on the 2001 is very similar in the steps needed to remove it from the vehicle as the 1992-96 model is just there are different bolt locations holding the panel in.

Very helpful video. I needed to replace both interior/exterior driver's door handles on a '92 camry. I watched this video and went to work and was successful after an hour's time. On my care, there is a light underneath the door arm-rest behind whch a screw for the door panel. Also, On my car, the other screw is behind the tweeter speaker. Last, I started with window down and needed to reconnect the panel to throw the switch to raise the window before I could continue work. Great video!

The handle bezel removal is one of the best kept secrets that I couldn't remember. Could change my timing belt easier than figuring out the handle bezel without breaking it. You guys are awesome!

@Lebbz It really depends on the shops labor rate. If it's not a repair that you feel comfortable doing yourself, then you may want to ask a couple of auto body shops.

One this that may help recover dropped bolts is a slim telescoping magnet (you can find them at the parts store), if you do drop a bolt it will help you recover it.

Great video! I wish I found this earlier today. It was really frustrating trying to remove the bezel around the inside handle without breaking it but I eventually got it off. I called it quits after that. Now I know exactly what to do tomorrow morning to finish the job. {Thumbs Up}

The rod that connected to the handle snapped off when I tried to do this. Is there any way to replace it? Do they even make replacement rods like that?

Great video, great part. Arrived in just a few days. Just wanted to point out that my door ('93 Camry) was slightly different. Mine had an extra screw hidden behind the courtesy light at the lower rear end of the inside door armrest. Just pop out the light housing (rectangular), disconnect the light power cable connector, and then remove the last door screw.

Thanks a lot!! It worked like a charm for my 2000 camry so this video is useful for 99-02 camrys too!!! Only hard part was to remove the rod from yellow clip, but it can be done with widening the yellow pin with flat screw driver, have some passions. Also don't mesh with old screws, your new handle might need the metric screw, so go get it from the store, if it didn't came with the handle. (Better to keep extra screw when u open the door panel, I dropped 2 of them inside the door..)

Same issue w/ temps dropping suddenly and front driver's door handle snapping off at the forward hinge. Video is very informative, but with the current cold weather, will not attempt this myself since garage is not heated.

@crazyitch21 If you have two doors that won't open, and they are power door locks check to see if there's power the door lock actuators. if there is and they just do not unlock, then this video will show you how to take everything apart to check out the linkage inside of the door.

Thanks, got one passenger door with busted door handle, and one driver door with glass off the guides, since the motor works, and once down, it has stayed that way. Winter without a drivers side adjustable window, not the mention car parked security, isn't ggod.

Thanks for this video, it really helped me figure out how to get at my door handle. I found a slight difference between my 93 Camry and the one you were working on, though, there is another screw hidden behind the door light in my model. Everything else was perfect.

great video, my friend. very easy to follow. my only snag was dropping one of the small bolts that secured the handle on the inside. it dropped down into the twilight zone , never to be seen again. What is that yellow clip connecting the rod to the mechanism called? I need to track one down as I discovered the one on my 96 Camry was shattered and the previous owner zip-tied it all back together?

If it has an actuator on the door lock, you may want to take a look at it to see if it's working correctly.

Thanks! Was a great help in me figuring out how the lock system works and how to re-attach the lock rod after it was displaced by a slim jim. The 10 mm bolts were impossible for me to remove, however, with a socket and driver. Ended up re-attaching the lock rod and clip without removing the outside door handle (now I know how performing microsurgery feels). Overall, great vid!

Mike, My 94 Camry xle also has electric connections: switch for the dome light if you pull the handle, sm plastic tab on door handle internally to trip dome switch etc. Where can I find details to move that stuff over? I'd be fine disconnecting a switch and migrating it, like the key cylinder, but things like the little plastic tab to trip the dome light switch seem to be intrinsic to the door handle - part of the molded plastic and not attachments? Any thoughts? Thanks for all your videos!

Hi, Thank you very much for the video, it really helped. I was trying it for my 2000 camry driver side handle. Everything worked pretty much good, but the rod to be removed from the yellow clip, that sucks. I tried to push it away from the yellow part, but its too hard to reach at certain angle and apply the force. Morever it looks like big diameter of rod, outside the yellow clip. I've to leave it as is, because of this and I am waiting for your help. Please let me know some tip.

I'm up to 3:46, lift the panel up and off... Nope! All sides are loose except the area around the two push-pins back by the latch. Both pins are out, but there is something catching there that keeps the panel from coming off. Any thoughts on what the cause could be? I don't want to force it and have something break. Extra note: it seems yhe obstruction is interior to the push pins as the are around them will lift away from the doorframe an inch or so.

This video is very useful, with one exception: DO NOT allow the bolts to drop into the bottom of the door when removing the old handle mechanism. I did so, and while I had no problem locating the right side bolt (viewed from the inside), the left side bolt disappeared. I never found it in spite of a careful search with a variety of probing devices including a flexible magnetic probe. I ended up having to buy a replacement.

Hey man is there any way you could do an exterior driver handle for a 2003 avalon? i saw the panel removal for the earlier model and once off it looked like the door handle assembly was COMPLETELY blocked off from easy access with a huge chunk of metal. Before order the part and getting it painted i want to make sure i will be able to get it in there without to much hassle. Thanks for any info man, good videos!!!
