Did mine today. Followed the service manual and undid the 1 bolt/2 nuts that mount the ball joint to the lower A arm. Didn't need to fudge with the brake line or abs sensor nor unbolt the knuckle from the strut assembly. Just pop out the axle and move the knuckle and strut to the side.

For those like me frustratingly searching on how to do the rear CV axle (4x4), but only coming up with videos on the front axles, the process is pretty much the same. This video plus the video on how to remove the knuckle kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bpepYKebr9SaZoU.html is what I followed to get mine off. You don't have to remove the knuckle completely, halfway through the process the whole assembly will pivot down enough to get the CV axle out. Get yourself an axle remover tool. You might be able to rent one through your local auto parts store. For me, a few strikes of the hammer and the whole thing popped right out. Install was pretty straightforward. Good luck.

Great video!!!!..... my problem is the rear axle, I can't find a video on replacing it but I can probably figure it out, my question is, how easy is it to change the seal that the rear axle slides into??

Hey is it transmission ATF fluid or transfer 85W-90 oil that leaks out? I have a 2011 automatic rav 4 / 4 cylinder with a leaking axle seal

I am doing struts, cvs, wheel hub assembly, brakes. I've done this components before, separately. Would you recommend starting with replacing the CV or strut first or does it really matter since I'm taking everything off?

Excellenttttt Video 100-100, it was scary to see him pulling the ABS Sensor. Personally I would prefer to disconnect it at the Plugin further up on the inner fender skirt. less chance of twisting or damaging the sensor, nothing discussed about the transmission fluid topup..... Professional Video ty

Good afternoon my Toyota has a problem to put D as it gets thrown and when putting R also the changes puts them very well believes that the problem is caused by the axle or what are the problems that causes an axle in poor condition

Help please. When I pulled the driver side CV axle out NO transmission fluid came out and and was not anywhere visible. The car was level on the hoist . When i completed the job and the car was on the level floor the transmission dipstick showed transmission fluid within the cold range. Any ideas? You video was a big help ! Thanks

+Mark Slick Thanks for watching! As long as your transmission fluid is at the proper level then there should be no issue. Just be sure to check it carefully to make sure you have the correct amount!

mmmmm i think its a different ordeal with these newer 2012 up, rave4, according to it, dealers only, has the electronic tools and instruments to measue and install fluid, but i personally would measure what the loss was in the "catch container" pour the old fluid in a measuring cup ( rob it from your wifes Kitchen essentials lol) and use a turkey baser to put it back in where the shaft goes, before replacing the cv shaft plus add a "NEW AXLE SEAL". just to be sure and a precautionary measure of no leaks ,my 2 cents worth

Great video but why not go ahead and replace the seal while you are doing this job? Its a cheap part and insurance that it doesn't leak with the new joint in place.

My Axle WILL NOT come out.... am i the only one having this issue? i have tried everything and have 20 different angles of pry bars here. will not budge

Maybe to late but simply disconnect the abs sensor and come out just like video yesterday I replace my bearing hub and damaged the axle and the sensor I’m pretty sure the sensor is disconnected before hit the axle

@@Fosgen Do you have to lift the entire front when changing the right CV or is it fine to simply lift the one side. I've never done this before but the inner right seal is leaking. I assume also that the car should not be in gear as loosening up the hub nut could move the vehicle. Any advice appreciated as no videos mention these initial basic questions.

@@woofbark4475 Take nut cover off wheel. Put car on handbrake and 5th gear. Take 30 mm 12 point long socket, must be long, short socket doesn't fit. 900 mm breaker bar and unscrew axle nut. Not easy at all. Jack front a bit, take one wheel off and support only side without wheel. The rest is a bit straight forward. To take CV axle off you may need flat end crowbar but it pops out rather easily. Gearbox oill will start leaking. I lost about 1L.

4th option, stick a screw driver in the slot in the rotor between the caliper and the carrier. Done

You don't need to see that, the filler part is the same narrow metal tube opening where the transmission dip stick sits, and it's only about 1/2 cup or 1/10 of 1 quart so it's not anything to worry about because the transmission is virtually full without it, unless you have leaks.

159 ft. lbs for the axle nut?? hmmm my '13 rav4 spec. is 215 ft. lbs. Hope I didn't over torque it

That nut is a bitch to get off. The deformation into the slot doesn’t pull up easily. I would put some anti seize on the splines on the wheel bearing end too.

ANYONE DOING THIS JOB: save yourself some time and a banged up transmission by renting an axle puller from advanced auto parts. It is free to rent, and it makes removing the cv half axle from the transmission much, much easier.
