Very helpful thanks. Was using this alongside the workshop manual. That says to lower the window by 1/3rd and then pop the clip off the glass on the door lock side. You can then take out two screws and move the black bar across to the other side, out of the way. No need to remove the glass or mess with the hinge side of the window mechanism. It worked for me.

This helped me right out today. Managed to get it past the window bits with a bit of persevering. Thanks for uploading.

Today I have changed my lock. Great video, I followed what you did and took me 2 hours. All works.

Just changed mine today, the video was most helpful, My XF has the passive system so had to be careful when removing the door handle,, I only removed the right hand side window stay thus leaving the window in place, fiddly job but satisfying, couldn't believe the number of wires in a door, don't think I could have done it without the video. Thank You.

Wish I'd seen this a few years ago when I was replacing the winder mechanism in my XF driver's door (one of the wires had snapped, so it was the whole thing). Anyway, I now know that when you've undone everything else, you just pull the top of the door card straight out towards you - horizontally. I 'assumed' that you had to lift it up to 'unhook' it from the door shell. What a job that was, and I even put it back the same way. It was the captive clips that I struggled with. If only I'd known that, job would have been so much easier. I know now! Good job, well done!

This was a great video which helped me immensely as I had to fit a new lock prior to selling the car and did so in time. Doing it in the garage with plenty of lighting did help for anyone who's thinking of doing this

Thanks for posting this helpful video, Glenno - much appreciated. I've done this job this afternoon on my wife's 2014 car with keyless unlocking. Same process with more multiplugs to disconnect. Despite your best efforts to guide me through it, I've still got scraped knuckles and broken the plastic glass securing lug on the window regulator. 🙂

Just had to do this today - not to change the lock module but to reattach the cable from the interior door handle after it came loose a few weeks after the lock module was changed by a garage. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful indeed.

Great video, very helpful - just changed front passenger door lock mechanism (XF X250 2.2d) this was the third one to go 😒 - other 2 had changed by Jag Indy, but wanted to save £120, so had a go myself. Took about 4 hours as I was taking my time. Initially tried without removing window (FFS!) soon learned my lesson as once window mechanism is out of the way it’s easy to remove the latch/lock. All working now 🤞

Yesterday I could get the unit out with your guide, thank you. However, I didn't change it, I fixed it. My issue was that, even if I locked the car, the door was still openable. There are 2 little motors in the lock unit, I swapped those. Costed me £10 from Aliexpress. Thanks again.

Hello... I have just had to repair my 08 Jaguar XF door as the door lock to door latch cable had snapped..... well now i have had it all apart twice..there is a easier way to remove the entire lock without having to remove the window... ...when it comes to taking it out... remove the four regulator screws on the right hand side and bottom of the window regulator ..leave the top left one in place... this makes the window stay where it is whilst still allowing you to tuck the right side of the regulator out of the way .. just ply the window clip away, tuck the right side of the regulator out of the way...undo all lock assembly then take it out of the door , then unplug the electrics from it..miles easier than struggling to disconnect whilst in situe....only wire that needs disconnecting whilst in situe is the passive entry cabling that attaches to the door handle... but even this is easy... undo door handle as above ...reach inside and you will feel a sliding bit of plastic towards the rear of the latch mechanism..this slides to allow to be unplugged from outside of the vehicle....apart from that it was a huge help to identify on what to do..

Was very helpful but what I have realised is that before undoing any fastening on door lock or handle mechanism, lower window by about 1/3, take chrome strip off of our side of window, and remove glass and glass mechanism before starting on lock removale, it make job a lot simpler, the window is so easy to take when you haven't removed lock bolts, The lock then is at risk of damage and hinders removale of window mechanism. But the vidio was extremely helpful but a bit in the wrong order

Hi, My car has exactly the same symptoms but not an issue if I look the door from the inside first by pushing the lock in and then lock the car from the passenger side. I'm tempted to believe my lock mechanism works and the problem is between the outside handle and the mechanism? What do you guys think?

What type of screwdriver did you use to take the exterior door handle off? Which size?

Best to remove whole window regulator motor assembly - easy to do and makes installing the new lock mechanism a lot easier. Also need to know beforehand which torque screwdriver to use where. See Hilton video on rear door lock replacement for guidance on this. This fault is so common on all Jaguar Land rover locks I can't understand why Jaguar have not redesigned the mechanism. If safety rather than inconvenience were involved, the locks would have been recalled long ago.

Wow complicated but Jaguar are telling me 1.5 hours to do each door (I have three which have failed) with the parts the quote is for £1000.69! It's a 7 year old car I struggle to justify that amount.
