Fantastic. I installed new spark plugs on my daughter's car (she is in college) following the step-by-step demonstration. I had to buy one tool for the exercise but it was worth it. My experience was identical to the demonstration. Thank you

Just joined your channel. I’ve owned Toyotas since my first car, 1985 MR2 and now have a 2021 Tundra. I handed down my 2012 Tacoma to my 16 YO. Have also owned a 4Runner. I guess I’m a fan of Toyotas. Enjoy your videos very much. All the best to you in 2021.

I have a 2000 Tacoma pre-runner that has the 3.4 5VZ-FE engine . I do most of my own service . On the first spark plug change at 30,000 miles . On the passenger side, the side with the coils , it had Denso plugs. On the driver side I was surprised to find NGK plugs . This truck has nearly 300,000 miles now and is still like new !

Thank you. I watched your video partly because automotive repair manuals have become astronomically expensive. I have been working on the family cars for 45 years and I appreciate you showing how to be careful with the aluminum head prius engine. I vacuum and brush grit away, then vacuum around the plug before removing it. I use a 1/2" diameter nylon bottle brush dampened with WD-40 or mineral spirits to loosen the old anti-sieze when the plug is hard to remove. Thanks for modeling the best in careful mechanic procedure.

Doing wife's 20015 Prius C2 I needed a spark plug installer. An 8 inch long piece of 3/8 inch inside diameter tubing will help spin the plugs out and in.

I agree, anti-seize is required for this job. Also, the use of copper-based seize is also recommended for high heat applications. Peter is on top of his game! True Professional!!!!

Great video as always sir. I love Toyotas and you're my go-to youtube channel for Toyota everything. Your videos helped me greatly in troubleshooting and fixing my 04 4Runner. I just bought an 08 Prius for a little car to drive around town and this video was helpful. I also bought the Denso plugs... before I even watched this video... I guess I got lucky and chose correctly lol. I bought the Prius for $3,000. What a steal for 50 mpg =] Has leather interior too... that "cloth" BS is trash lol. Just changed all the filters, wow they were in terrible shape. I think there was a whole tree in the cabin filter lol. Changed the oil and filter as well. Tomorrow will be the plugs and brakes/rotors up front and drums and shoes in the back. Thanks again bud =] Happy 2022.

YES, BKR5EIX-11 belongs in that engine. There is nothing wrong with the heat range (5), tip reach, or design of that plug. NGK clearly states that on their website. BKR5EIX-11 is a replacement for Laser Iridium IFR5T-11 (which is recommended in the manual). The ONLY difference is that the Iridium IX plugs are NOT rated for the same length of service as the Laser Iridium plugs and that particular set in the customer's vehicle should have been changed out ages ago.

* Here's hoping 2021 is a great year for you Peter. The economy will almost assuredly get worse, so people will do maintenance on their vehicles and keep them longer, rather than acquiring a lot of debt buying new ones. So more work for you. Especially since you're honest. So have a great year! * Anti-seize is far preferable to stripping the plug threads! I've NEVER had or heard of a spark plug coming loose. * Now we want to hook you up to a torque wrench and see how strong those mechcanics hands are, lol.

Apparently, 5/8, 3" deep sockets are in scarce supply and magnetic version unavailable in my area currently. I had used painters tape inside 3 of the sockets to make them tight enough to lift the old plugs up out of the 6"+ tunnel they are down in. This was a real pain to get paper to stick to socket and repeat times 4, especially since its only 23F outside today and I did the job outside. It did not work for 4th plug, which behaved consistent with the law of the last of every screw, bold, nail etc., seems to often provide more resistance. So unsure if plug was up and socket not gripping or if plug was still unscrewed, i put the coil back down the hole and magic, the coil pulled out the old plug. So if you cant find a magnetic socket, maybe skip the paper inside socket as bits fell off and was a pain and try using the coils to pick up the old plugs out of the hole. Thank you for making this video and appreciate the humor and tips re Denzo and socket numbers.

Just a heads up Peter. I am the original owner of a 2nd gen 2005 Prius and yesterday I replaced the factory spark plugs, for the first time, with 152,000 miles. Imagine my surprise when I pulled the originals and discovered that they were NGK Iridiums IFR5A 11’s. I replaced them with Denso iridiums based on your recommendation, but now I am wondering if I should have stuck with the factory NGK’s…

@synapticburn
@synapticburn 9 ай бұрын
the argument against anti seize is the same one you made about using factory plugs. the factory and the plug manufacturer didn't design for it. the factory specs are for a dry plug. with anti seize it torques down easier. That said, they will come back out fine if they are dry because there is a factory coating on the plugs. But it will also be fine with anti seize if you torque to the 14 ft pounds it's not going to come loose in most cases
