This is for the 2013 base model. I am pretty sure the other models are not to different. Good luck. From start to finish it took me about an hour.

This might be my favorite video ever. My Escape's battery just died, and I am now not doing it myself, thanks to this. I've done plenty of car repairs, but this is exactly what would happen if I replaced this ridiculously located battery.

Wow. Thanks. I took it to the ford dealer since it’s winter, it’s snowing and it’s cold. Yes it cost me but I just drank coffee and stayed warm and sane.

Anytime you have to "bend something out of the way," it's probably not the intended way to do it. It's much faster and easy to remove the wipers and cowling to get to the battery verses going about it the way you did.
@darrylwoo95233 жыл бұрын
I just did a battery swap on a 2014 Escape. I removed the wipers and cowling. It was much easier than the method in this video. I used the “opportunity” to upgrade to an H7 AGM battery. Once you have the old battery out, you’ll see the battery box is much bigger than the OEM battery. You just pop off the front and rear spacers and the H7 fits. I had to remove the top of the air box to get added clearance, but that would not be necessary if I just replaced it with the OEM 96R. 800 CCA vs 590.

The worst part of it is although the battery is supposed to last 4 years, mine also needs replacement now (2 years). So you have to do it twice as often. Looked at the battery and wondered why they make it so hard. That's why I figured to find a video first. Not looking forward to this. Jeez. And very funny video, loved it !!! Can see myself out there cussing away too when what's supposed to be a 2 minute job turns into a one hour job.

My son and I changed out his 2014 Escape 2.0 l battery a week ago using this method which apparently is the Ford recommended Technical Bulletin method. We had all the tools and DIY experience but it is still a bitch of a job, nearly 2 hours. Every nut, bolt needed to remove is difficult due to tightness of working area and location. You need deep socket to get negative battery terminal off firewall. Even removing 8 mm nuts on battery hold down is time consuming. Getting the air filter box pulled out is tough too. This is not for inexperienced, impatient or minimal tools types. After watching the windshield wiper and cowl removal method I think we would certainly do that method next time. There are some good KZfaq videos on how to remove both windshield wipers to get started. His battery was June of 2016 so that was impressive, a Motorcraft battery.

THERE IS AN EASIER WAY!!! All you have to do is pull the windshield wipers and the top plastic cover and the battery is out in the open. I'm not a fan of having the battery buried, but the whole process is simple and takes 20 minutes if you go in through the top! Look for other youtube videos showing the top entry.
@pauldallimore7117 жыл бұрын
It's way easier to go at this battery from the top. Less stuff to remove and you don't have to take the battery box apart. It requires taking the wipers off but that's only two bolts.

the easiest way is to remove the cowling. after removing the windshield wipers with a small screwdriver remove the 8 clips across the front of the cowling, holding top and bottom halves together. the back snaps in so pull up to remove. next the bottom half has four bolts 2 on drivers side and 2 on passenger side. after removing these remove the two bolts holding brake reservoir in place and let it lay. remove cowling and remove battery front and rear covers. swap battery and put everything back in reverse order. piece of cake.( and you wont break the air filter box)!

So I am about to change the battery in my wife's escape. Do I need to throw the temper tantrum and hissy fit in order to get this done? Or just take the wipers off and the cowling above the battery. They don't mention your way in the Factory service manual. Haha no worries anybody who has ever worked on a car has had that reaction at least once. You want fun try doing a passenger side cv Axel on a 2004 maxima. probably the worst freak out I ever had. Wife parked her car in my heated garage and took keys. so I had to do it outside in snow and -15c with 20kmh winds. Took me almost 6hours not including going inside to warm up.

That's one reason I love my CX5 . The cabin air filter , engine air filter and battery is right there . Little stuff I can do by myself . The dealership wants $65 and $70 dollars to change the cabin air filter . I can buy it on amazon for $15 and change it myself
@frednakovic15838 жыл бұрын
Yoday the dealer replaced the battery free on my 2014 under warranty. That said, I don't see much problem replacing it myself. The guy in the video is hilarious with the tantrums! A couple better tools and some patience is all he needs. I like the 2L Ecoboost though. With a 91 octane performance tune it outruns most any stock SUV that cares to find out...
@ellaharris15015 жыл бұрын
loved this video! seems like ford deliberately designed this vehicle to make the owner have to pay for the simplest repair. need new front turn signals but the local dealer wants to charge $49 dollars to replace and I have the replacement bulbs! what a scam!

You're a lot rougher than myself when doing this job but the concept is the same. Ford was not thinking when they did this... Very poorly designed. Glad I checked my wife's battery fluid levels (non maint free Ford battery)... they were all low. What a pain in the butt to check.

Maybe if you watched a youtube video of how to change out a battery on the Escape you would have had more luck and less frustration. As in remove the cowl at the top and it lifts straight out. Much easier..This is 1st time i've made a comment, I just felt compelled as he was such a idiot.
@dblgonzo7 жыл бұрын
You don't have to go through all of that. If you remove the cowling the battery comes right out the top. Remove the windshield wipers. Two bolts and a few clips it unsnaps and then remove the bottom part of the cowl that is held in by four bolts. You have anger issues that need to be addressed by a professional.

Ha ha... i did this today twice your way. It took me 20 min. To do both.. Un screw the brake reservoir and tuck it to the left. Then pull the airbox out don't break it. Unbolt the positive lead the front plate for the battery box has Clips at the top little screwdriver easily does not break them I pull off one wire that is on the bottom left corner of the front. Pull cover to the right unbolt the battery tie down pull it forward 3 inches. Then unbolt neg. Than pull it out. Not that hard. Way eaiser than taking off wippers and cowl. Stay calm

That's the thing though, you should've have to be a professional to swap out a battery. My 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the same pain in the ass way, in fact it sits in a weird location right in front of the passenger side firewall. I had to jump a buddies car and you don't even attach the cables to the battery, they have special mounting points w/ rubber covers on them and it gives u directions under the hood on what to do. WHEN DID SHIT GET SO DIFFICULT?
