I got reamed at the dealer today. $96 for them to change my cabin air filter $35 for the filter, $25 for labor, and $30 to clean up the 'debris' that they spilled while removing the filter- which I never even asked for them to remove in the first place. I am more than capable of changing the air filter on my own. Sure would be nice if they'd ask if you want them to check it before just apparently carelessly pulling it out and dumping stuff in the hole.

Thanks for watching and sharing your unfortunate experience. We can definitely understand why your username is WantsANewVehicle after that experience! I have, only once, needed to put my foot down at a dealership for attempting to charge me for a service that I did pre-authorize. It was many years ago, and they did drop the charge, so while it wasn't a good feeling at the time they did make it right for me. Never again did that dealer perform a service without first getting my expressed approval. In your shoes, I would have done the same thing and refused to pay for a service I didn't pre-authorize! At the very least, I would not have agreed to pay the labor or bogus clean-up fee. Not every dealership treats their customers the same, and I hope your experience with them improves or you find a dealer that treats you right from the start. Take care and stay safe!

Our local Kia & Hyundai dealers hand out a little half page instruction sheet on replacing the filter yourself and even recommend a third party cabin filter (Spearhead) that is $13 on Amazon. The service managers basically agree that the Kia/Hyundai price of $30 for the filter that you are supposed to replace annually is too much, and they aren't even carbon filters and they don't want to charge customers another $40 dollars to install it when it takes at most 5 minutes to do yourself.

They sound like a wonderful dealership. Fantastic customer service! My dealership just quoted me $55 to replace the cabin air filter which was coverd in debris from the trees by my driveway. Plus another $95 to vacuum out the debris they said had fallen down into the AC blower motor. This brought me to here view this video while in sitting in the customer lounge waiting for my complementary oil change to be completed. Thank you for the tip on the more cost effective filter. You and @SpiritedWrenchers just saved me around $135. I watched a quick 10 minute video about how to remove and clean the AC blower motor, before finding this informative filter replacement video. Edit: I just sent @SpiritedWrenchers a few $ as a thank you.

Thanks for watching brother. I love how simple the engine filter is. Normally I'm used to stupid tabs that seem hard to compress in order to get to it. The spins in the glove box also are a breeze. Nothing hard to line up. I was impressed. I'm not surprised about Mercedes. Everything has to be over the top for them. Lol.

Thanks Mrs. Dana for this video 👍 grateful and appreciated your work 💯 I have a few questions (I was looking for the video but couldn't find it) When I have to change my coolant? What coolant can be used for Hunday Santa fe 2022? What is the process to change the coolant if it comes in a different color than the original pink? Or Where can I get the same pink coolant in the car?
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers 4 ай бұрын
Hi Yulimar; thank you for watching and a fantastic question! The owner's manual states to check your coolant when you stop for fuel (this interval is also quoted for checking the engine oil level, but we feel it's a little too frequent for the standard driver), and for the turbo engines to replace the coolant first at 80,000 miles or 10 years (whichever comes first) and then every 24,000 miles after that. As far as ensuring you are using the proper grade/color of coolant, we would recommend that you call your local dealership to see if you can purchase it directly from them or if they would offer an alternative brand you can more readily purchase from an auto parts store. This is really the best way to ensure that the coolant you are adding meets the specifications for your vehicle and prevent any undue corrosion that can cause leaks and/or major issues down the road. Take care and stay safe!

Hi, I just a brand new 23 SF Calligraphy this week and just found your channel. You guys provide some really great information for car owners. I do have a question. In the engine bay there was a box with a big red plus sign on it wrapped in some cheap plastic. Is that a fuse box? I actually ripped all that plastic off as I thought it was shipping protection or something. It didn't appear to be covering anything the plastic cover already is. Any thoughts? Keep up the great work. Looking forward to many years with our new ride!
@SpiritedWrenchers

Hi Bonzo. Thank you very much for watching and sharing the kind words. We appreciate it greatly. Congrats on your new 23 Calli. Foe that box, it's actually the cover for your positive battery post/terminal. It's so large because of the fusible links that are on the battery cables. We were actually happy to see a cover because our Subaru doesn't have a cover protecting it all. The plastic was just a protective cover during shipping and such. We still have ours on, but I don't believe there is any concern if it was taken off. Hope you get many safe miles from your Calli and we appreciate you following us on the channel for more content.

Great video. Our first dealer service roped us into this for about $58CAD. After watching this, I'll try it next time. Is there any differences between OEM filters and aftermarket filters , like from Canadian Tire here in Canada? BTW, never did get audio controls (voice commands) to make windows raise or lower.
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers Жыл бұрын
Hi Andy, Thanks for watching and sharing. We really appreciate it. You can definitely do this yourself. Very easy. In regards to the filters, I'm not familiar with those from Canadian Tire, but the cheaper you go there is a noticeable difference in material quality. Some are very basic and thin, resulting in less filtration. Although we don't feel there is a requirement to go OEM, their products are well made. The prices also weren't far off from brand names at the auto parts stores such as Fram, STP, etc. I have also gone to parts stores and pulled them out of the boxes to compare as well as price comparison. Hope that helps. Stay safe out there.

Hi, great informational video! Can you tell me how you went about purchasing those parts from your local Hyundai? Did you call/visit and just asked for what you needed or did you order it online?
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers 11 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching and asking! There are definitely a handful of ways to get the OEM filters. I walked into our local dealership parts department and got the filters I needed from the service rep at the counter, but if you're not in close proximity or if you just don't like your local dealer then you could definitely order them online from a distributor like hyundaioempartsdirect. I have heard on Facebook of reports that not all dealers will have a reliable parts department fully stocked with all the filters and parts needed for DIY maintenance, or that the local prices are above MRSP, and that's when I would recommend ordering online (and probably buying in bulk to save on shipping). Take care and stay safe!

how many miles do I have to change air filter?
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers 10 ай бұрын
Hi Andy! Thanks for asking. The owner's manual says for the engine air filter, to inspect every 12 months/8k miles and replace every 36 months/24k miles. The caveat is that under more severe driving conditions (as we have), you should always inspect more frequently and expect to replace them more frequently. For the cabin air filter, the manual states to inspect every 12 months/8k miles and replace every 24 months/16k miles; again, with the caveat that if you are driving under severe conditions that you should inspect more frequently and expect to replace them more frequently. We generally replace our air filters once per year unless we happen to inspect and notice something is amiss and replace them sooner. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!

Why does your new cabin air filter say MOBIS instead of Hyndai/Kia like your original one? Are you sure your dealership sold you an original part? Also? What is the normal interval for replacement? I have a 2023 and recently went in for oil change with 8500 miles. I told them not to replace or even check the air filters because I wasn’t going to change them yet. Since then, I’ve noticed a mostly smell coming from the air vents. I also noticed finger print (grease marks) by my glove box when I picked up the car- that tells me they did indeed at least check the filters when I told them not to). I suspect they stole my original filters and replaced them with older filters. I’m watching this video to learn how to check them myself. I’m so mad that the dealerships are so corrupt and no one can be trusted. They steal from their own loyal customers.
@SpiritedWrenchers
@SpiritedWrenchers Ай бұрын
Hi Elsa, thanks for watching and noticing that. I did question it myself, but my second air filter that I purchased from the dealer also didn't have Hyundai/Kia printed on it, and also came from a sealed box. I suspect that auto manufacturers, like the US Government, will go with whatever parts manufacturer is the most affordable. I have the receipt from the dealer should I run into any problems, it would be on them to fix the parts problem. It would be on my to fix any issue with the labor, such as possible debris falling inside of the blower motor which could cause noise, smells, and premature failure. The owner's manual interval for changing the cabin air filter under normal conditions is to inspect every 8k miles (the same as the normal oil change interval) and to replace it every 16k miles (the same as every other oil change). While it is quite possible that the service technician working on your vehicle is required by their employer to follow this precise instruction, you could contact the service manager with pictures to inquire about your concern that technicians are: 1- handing interiors with greasy fingers, 2- failing to follow customer request, and 3- possibly having ill-intent. Not all dealerships are the same as they are all independent franchises. If you're unsatisfied with your local dealership, I'd advise you to post honest reviews of the service department online and to call Hyundai USA to lodge a formal complaint about your local dealer. Hope this helps; take care and stay safe!
