Can i just say Please Please do not put your new strut arm in a vice it will dammage/mark the shaft this the top seal and significantly reduce the life of the part. There is a 6mm flat section at the top use an offset spanner and a 6mm open end spanner to tighten that section down not a vice.

Absolutely this, although the bit they have clamped will end up inside the bump stop, so should never be pushed down into the unit.

Don't use a vice on machine surfaced parts. That's amateur. You'll damage the finish and cause leaks through the seal

@@hammya9158the way they clamp the shock as shown is horrible and more a convenience than a requirement. I would lay the shock on a table and tighten the nut down reverse of how they remove it. You’d have a hell of a tight over tightening it, at that same time 25 ft*lbs isn’t very much. If you absolutely have to have a torque spec on it, put a rag or something in there to secure shaft, *DO NOT DIRECTLY CLAMP THE SHAFT.*
