A how to video on replaceing your rear seal on the 4l60e, this applys to about all 2wd rear wheel transmissions. Like the, th350 turbos and 700r4s and more.... I hope you find this video helpful

93 Chevy c 1500 2 wheel drive would call for a boot type seal? Correct? I've replaced this seal once already and it is leaking still. I think they gave me the seal without the boot type fitting. This truck calls for 2 different seal type's. I know I put it on correctly, I know mechanics. But I think Auto zone gave me the incorrect seal for my truck

On a 2wd should use same seal, if it leaking your tail shelf bushing could be worn out, or your seal spring on back side popped off when it was drove in

Is there a serviceable seal on the 4l60e 4x4 models? Mine is leaking between the trans and tc. Having a hard time finding a video for 4x4 models.

I usually use trans fluid or very light wheel bearing grease, sometimes assemble lube if on hand

no, you can use other brands of silicone, just make sure its oil resistant

The seal like never leak from the outer edge and really no need for any sylocone.

I always use gasket maker, because if you get a seal from a old car that has been changed alot it usually has damage on the surface where the seal mates and causes a leak, the damage is more than the red from the factory seal can fix, so instead of having to redo the job, I always use gasket maker, it will push out what it don't need, so if it does need some gasket maker or it don't, its a win win

Don’t use the rtv, that’s what that red “paint” is for. Regular black rtv will not seal transmission fluid anyway. Ask me how i know…

I use the brand right stuff most the time when doing transmission work or working on something I never want to leak, lol I don't remember what I used in this video though

If you have a rear transmission seal leaking that might cure your problem but don’t forget that there is a bearing inside that housing that I highly recommend to replace or you will still have that leak just food for thought in case you’re going to go through all that trouble do it the right way replace that bearing thank you my brothers and sisters MA Jesus Christ of Nazareth bless you all.✝️✝️✝️🙏🏻🇺🇸

This is absolutely how NOT to replace a seal!!!! You do not put sealant on a seal as it is already on there and not compatible. The red stuff on the seal is the sealant. sometimes there is a bead of sealant as well, but under no circumstances do you add any kind of RTV. Everybody who has a camera and changes their own brakes seems to be a "Mechanic" now i swear.

That's weird, since my Haynes Repair Manual says to "coat the outer diameter with a suitable sealant" under "Extension oil seal" replacement for the 4-speed Saginaw. It's almost like you don't know everything after all.

This is for rear seal only, most people don't change rear bushing unless they have drive shaft issues causing the bushing to wear, other than that the seal is mostly what goes bad, but I can make a video on the bushing replacement soon
