In this video I show how to remove and replace the 6 speed manual transmission on a 2004 Honda Accord. The replacement is the same for the Acura TL and similar to the replacement procedure for the automatic transmission replacement in both the TL and the Accord. I was forced to replace my transmission because Midas cracked it when they changed my transmission fluid, and refused to claim responsibility. Typically you would replace the transmission from the bottom of the vehicle, but that is not possible without a lift. I show in this video, that it is possible to replace it from above. Thank you so much man this video is like one of the only videos where it shows you in depth on how to do the 6-6. I'm not replacing my transmission but I need to replace the clutch. Any of the videos I have found are for the 5-speed 2.4. There is almost none for the 6-speed. Hopefully the job is easier for me because I'm just doing a clutch. I won't have to remove the coolant or coolant hoses i believe. I think I'll just have to remove the fan shroud and detach the CV axles then I might have enough room

I can confirm that I am the first to post something like this, haha. I too searched for details on this process on a 3.0. The front lip spoiler is a Honda factory performance spoiler from the factory.

Love the content! I have an 03 Accord 6-6 and cannot find a tutorial for clutch replacement ANYWHERE on KZfaq. My only gripe is the engine bay, it needs a little TLC lol haha! Keep up the good work man, this is an awesome video!

Nice video! @20:40 I noticed that you didn't pull the fork off the bottom of the strut (connecting to the strut lower control arm). That helps _so much_ and creates a ton of space (and the fork design means you can remove it with the axle in place, then work on the axle afterwards). If you ever need to pull the axles again, _I believe_ you should be able to remove those forks, then undo the tie rod and lower ball joint, and leaving the upper ball joint attached, just swing the entire knuckle far enough to get the axle out, with the brakes and everything still mounted. That said, I'm still intimidated by the transmission part of this job, so thanks again for the really helpful video!

@36:00 if you have trouble tightening a ball joint, you can use a set of slip-joint pipe pliers to squeeze the two halves together with one hand while you tighten the nut with the other hand. In this case, it would be top jaw on the control arm, bottom on the knuckle, so the ball joint gets squeezed in between. It's basically the same idea as how you were pulling the control arm down before, but the pliers give you more leverage.

Just did this on a 2005 Honda Accord with 2.4 liter and 5 spd manual. Just some additional removal of coolant junction stuff on the side of the engine, clutch and flywheel and it comes out rather easy. Transmission goes in today for a rebuild.

What coolant junction ?I remove just the top , lower coolant hoses and radiator

@@10sandovalallan I did not remove the radiator nor the fans and fan housings. The “coolant junction” is a piece that bolts onto the side of engine and that is where the coolant hoses convene.

Did you drain the trans fluid at all? Or just pulled the trans off and it didn’t leak out of the axle holes?

Midas drained the transmission fluid for me when they cracked the drain plug. It took a while before I ended up replacing the transmission so it had all leaked out by then.

When reassembling the clutch to the flywheel, did u already have a alignment tool to keep the clutch plate centered, buy one, or use something else? Thanks.

Yes, if anything, it should be easier since the engine is smaller.

I just replaced clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing by pushing the transmission out onto the subframe. The clutch was almost to the rivets at 157K miles. Got it all back together and I still have noise that disappears when clutch is fully depressed while in neutral. Reputable rebuild shop said based on that symptom, the issue is in the transmission. Can I assume that if I got the transmission separated and out onto the subframe, that I can get it out the top by clearing the remaining junk above?

@@stephenmras8519 Yep, take out all of the “junk” above and it should slide right out. If you have difficulty getting it around the frame in the engine bay, you may need to take off the flywheel.

Thanks. I will note that I was able to remove both CV axles by detaching the lower ball joint and the lower yoke bolts. Push out the steering knuckle to create room for the outer CV axle to come through and clear the bearing hub. Thank you for this video, as I was preparing for subframe removal without the benefit of a lift. I do have an engine hoist to get the transmission out.

Transmission: (depending on where you buy it) $450 Clutch and bearings: $500 Engine hoist rental: $50 Total: $1000 That’s without factoring in the tools, which I didn’t need to purchase as I already had what I needed.
