I show you the step by step guide to replacing the FMW-2 water filter cartridge on my Whirlpool Gold GS6SSHEXNL04 side by side refrigerator. Many refrigerators use this same type of system so this video may be of help to you!

Thank goodness I found this. mine would not twist no matter what I did, and figured that I needed to press a button somewhere to release. I'll try again with the grill off

Thanks for posting this. I have a hard time turning the black cap but I still have the grill on. Looks like this will be easy to grip it.

It’s MUCH Easier to twist the filter with the side grill off. If it is still hard to turn, it means the rubber gaskets expanded and you get a strong suction behind it. You could remove the black plastic cap and try turning with pliers or vice grips

@@brykidla I took the grill of when I changed the filter after seeing the video. So much easier than doing it with the grill on. I had actually gotten to where I dreaded changing the filter.

I have the same whirlpool fridge as yours. Lucky to see your video. the ice from my fridge ice maker tastes like metal for a long time, today I ordered the new filter, hope it is useful.😊

I've been using ebay knock off brand filters for like 5 yrs for my filters no issue. But i went a got the actual whirlpool brand filter and it dont want to twist into place. Hmm..

I can’t speak for the brand but they may be sourcing them from a new factory. Perhaps return it and go back to one of the off brands.
