Ty for this video. I’m a 25 year old woman and was able to do this with no issue thanks to you and several other repair videos I’ve watched. I’ve replaced my blower motor, engine air filter, and now my thermostat thanks to helpful people like you giving us these gems. This was my first repair that I’ve done under the hood. I was intimidated at first but once I got going I found the confidence to continue. Thank you for saving me money and keeping me educated on my car. I love my civic! These cars are so reliable and relatively inexpensive and easy to repair when issues crop up. I’m a Honda owner for life. Only ever driven Honda’s and they’ve never failed me. 💁🏽‍♀️💙

People need to also know that most of the non-OEM thermostats for this car will NOT come with a new rubber gasket. Why? I have no idea. I don't know how smart it would be to reuse a 10-15+ year old rubber gasket after it has been exposed to that much head and hot coolant sitting tight against a very hot engine block. So its kind of a rip off. It cost me and additional $5 to buy it separately, and it was hard to find in stock. I drove around to 4 different auto parts stores and finally found one that carried a couple of them. That really blows my mind since this is supposed to be one of the most common problems on these cars and an easy DIY job. They carry so many different brands of thermostat but almost no gaskets. Who would want a new thermostat with no gasket?

Don’t forget to install the “jiggler valve” between the two bumps on the gasket so that when you install the thermostat and gasket assembly it’s located at the top instead of the bottom. The jiggler valve is meant to bleed air from the cooling system. Air will try to escape to the top and that’s why the jiggler valve has to be installed facing up not down. If you don’t it’ll be harder to bleed air from the cooling system and could have an overheat issue after finishing. I suggest getting a vacuum bleeder that works by either by air pressure or some kind of hand/foot pump.

@1AAuto
@1AAuto 3 жыл бұрын
+Adonis Portillo A working thermostat will allow the engine to warm up quickly by closing when the engine is cold. Thermostats sometimes remain open when they fail which would cause the engine to take longer to warm up.

I had the craziest problem. 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid here. Thermostat looked stuck open. Data list showed engine got to 176 degrees finally after 20 minutes of driving, also would cool rapidly to 142 degrees after coming to a stop without turning A/C on just normal driving. Also got a random p0420. When I took the thermostat out the gasket was not even round or tight to the thermostat anymore. Looked like water may have been leaking around the gasket past the thermostat or it just opened early and got stuck open from a weak spring or bad wax pellet or something. But after doing the thermostat and gasket at 176,000 miles heater getting good heat and no more rapid cooldown, no p0420 and engine warms within five minutes of driving to 185 degrees.

Why do you drain the coolant if the thermostat is up top ?
@keysersoce3782
@keysersoce3782 Жыл бұрын
Thermostat is located near the bottom of the engine (lower hose) which is below the top of the radiator. You don't have to drain the coolant, but you'll end up dumping all the fluid during the replacement of the thermostat.
